Reason:
Operation of an aeroplane beyond the Design Service Goal (DSG) is allowed provided certain
modifications and maintenance tasks are accomplished on that aeroplane, as applicable, in
accordance with the instructions of the Airworthiness Limitations Section (ALS) documents, by
reference to Airbus SB A340-02-4001 and SB A340-02-4003, which in turn refer to system level SBs.

that additional work is required for certain aeroplanes, which already operate beyond DSG after
accomplishment of initial revisions of the applicable system level SBs.
To address this potential unsafe condition, Airbus issued the SB, as defined in this AD, to provide
instructions for additional inspection(s) and replacement of certain fuel valves and pumps.
For the reason described above, this AD requires additional parts replacement and maintenance
tasks and, depending on findings, accomplishment of applicable corrective action(s).
Note 1: Where the SB specifies a compliance time ‘from aircraft Entry Into Service (EIS)’, this AD
requires action within the time period specified in the SB since aeroplane first flight.
Corrective Action(s):
(2) If, during accomplishment of any task as required by paragraph (1) of this AD, discrepancies are
found, before next flight, accomplish the applicable corrective action(s) in accordance with the
instructions of the SB.
Alternative Method:
(3) Accomplishment on an aeroplane of all the maintenance tasks as specified in, and in
accordance with the instructions of Airbus SB A340-28-4137 Revision 03, as applicable,
depending on aeroplane configuration, is acceptable to comply with the requirements of
paragraph (1) and (2) of this AD, as applicable, for that aeroplane.
