II. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT:
A noun is a word used to name a person, animal, place, thing or idea.
There are different kinds of nouns; mass nouns and count nouns,
possessive nouns and collective nouns. Count Nouns are nouns which
can be counted. (examples; books, dresses, and blankets). Mass nouns or
uncountable nouns are nouns that come in a state or quantity which is
impossible to count. (examples; water, sand and air). They are always
considered to be singular and can be used with some, any, a little, and much.
Possessive nouns are nouns which possess something. (examples: Lea’s
bag, Father’s car, Teacher’s table). You can identify a possessive noun by
the apostrophe and an s. Collective nouns denote a group or collection of
people, animals or things. (examples; bunch of flowers, flock of birds, a
team).
