This document provides reference data regarding the configuration requirements for any
released option or system configuration.
On occasion, you may be asked to work on Systems being used by Engineering or Mar-
keting to evaluate unreleased functionality. Requirements for those systems is beyond the
scope of this document and will be provided by Engineering.

General Information 0

This document is organized into five sections. Each section organizes configuration data
based upon a particular need. For instance, if you are enabling a particular feature, you
will need to know what hardware and software requirements must be met for the feature to
work. In this case you would look under the heading Minimum Hardware By Feature.
If you needed to replace a part in an ACUSON Sequoia system you would need to ensure
that the replacement part is of a suitable revision. In this case you would look under the
heading Minimum Hardware Requirement By Assembly.

Part Numbering 0

Beginning April 2001, all part numbers will conform to the Siemens eight-digit part number
format.

PCB Numbering System 0

Throughout the development and evolution of a printed circuit board (PCB), changes are
implemented for a variety of reasons. Some of these are significant to the field such as a
change to support a new feature. However, most changes do not affect the field. These
include things like board modifications to aid manufacturability, modifications to implement
new components as old components are made obsolete by suppliers, etc.
All changes that occur to a board are tracked and documented by changes to the revision
of the PCB Assembly. The revision of a board is marked in indelible ink on the ejector tab
of each PCB assembly and for most ACUSON Sequoia PCBs, it is also programmed into
a PROM on the board. DO not confuse the Assembly revision with the Fab revision written
in ink on the copper etch of the board.
ACUSON Sequoia PCBs are marked as follows:
• X1, X2, X3 - “X” Numeric designations indicate an engineering release. This generally
will not be found in the field except during clinical trials of a new feature, or some other
exceptional situation.
• XA, XB, XC - “X” Alphabetic designations indicate a preproduction release. These
boards are acceptable for field use.
• A, B, C - Alphabetic only designations are used for assemblies fully implemented in the
manufacturing process.

• 01, 02, 03 - Numeric designations were adopted for new materials under the Siemens
manufacturing process. Revisions that followed the alpha format change at the next re-
vision as follows:
- X1 goes to X2
- A goes to A1
- B goes to B1
- BF goes to C0
- XA goes to Y0
- Y9 requires a new part number
On occasion, it may be required to process a high priority change ahead of an already
scheduled lower priority change. (As of this writing, this situation has not occurred on
ACUSON Sequoia PCBs) In this situation, a second digit would be used to indicate the
new revision inserted between the current and planned revision.
For example: If a PCB at revision D with a planned revision change to E required a high
priority fix, it would roll to revision D1.

Software Nomenclature 0

The three decimal place software revision level number contains information about the
content of the software release. The form of the software revision number is:

Requirements by Assembly 0

This section describes minimum requirements for each assembly based upon the system
type. Use this section under the following conditions:
• When troubleshooting, to determine if the system has correct hardware to support the
desired features and transducers.
• To order spare parts adequate for use as replacements.
• When auditing upgrade kits, to verify the kit is complete and correct.

How To Use This Section 0

For each of the following tables, first locate the assembly in the left-most column of the
table. Proceed across the table to the column that shows the system types. If the system
is represented by more than one system type, use the higher revision requirements listed.
Be sure to read the comments field. It contains important information about compatibility,
exceptions, limitations, or unusual configuration issues. Once the required assembly is
identified, look to the Special Config column. If a mark is present in the Special Config
column, turn to the “Configuration Requirements By Assembly” section for additional infor-
mation.
Parts are first grouped by type: PCB Assemblies, Cable Assemblies, Mechanical Assem-
blies, and Other Parts and Assemblies. Each section is then categorized by in alphabeti-
cal order by acronym, if available. Parts that do not have an acronym are listed
sequentially by part number. Table 2 shows the Sequoia system abbreviations and their
definitions.

This section provides an overview of transducers available and what hardware and soft-
ware resources are required to allow the transducer to function.

How to Use This Section 0

1. Locate the transducer in the left-most column.

2. Refer to the column showing the system type and note the availability of that transduc-
er. The standard or optional status of a transducer is determined by marketing consid-
erations.

Std indicates a standard transducer.

Opt indicates the transducer is available as an option.
No indicates the transducer will not operate on that system.

3. Refer to the column entitled “Needle Guide Available?”

Yes indicates a needle guide is available.

No indicates a needle guide is not available.

4. Refer to the column entitled “Min. S/W Version”. This column indicates the minimum
software required to operate the probe on customer systems. The software version is
based on released transducers and released software revisions. In some instances,
