Food is any material or substance we eat (liquid or solid) to nourish our body, keep us alive, healthy, and make us grow with lot of energy for physical activities. There are six classes of food namely: Carbohydrates, Fat and Oil, protein, vitamins, mineral and water. A food is something that provides nutrients. Nutrients are substances that provide: energy for activity, growth and all functions of the body such as breathing, digesting food, and keeping warm; materials for the growth and repair of the body, and for keeping the immune system healthy. As per overall health benefits in the growth and development of an individual carbohydrates produces energy used by the nervous system, energy for muscle contraction and helps production of body heat. Protein also is the one organic foodstuffs with its and product of digestion as amino- acids found in both plant and animal food. These are just a few of many more foods that we intake in our body that can helps us in the growth and development of our body. Food is very important in all living things for us to stay alive and continue to growth physically and mentally. We need food for us to have the energy needed, to do our daily activities and routine in our daily lives. Without food every living things in the entire planet will die. Food is very important especially for human being and animals. We must intake healthy foods in our body for us to have a healthy body, healthy mind and heart and to continue a healthy lifestyle. 2.Discuss the present malnutrition status in the country and how the government addresses the existing problems, specially with school children? Explain your answer and cite examples.(15 pts.) The present malnutrition widely spread across the Philippines. Thirty-three percent of children under the age of 5 years (4 million children) are stunted and unlikely to reach their full mental and physical potential. There has been little progress in addressing undernutrition, and over nutrition has emerged as a serious concern. Overweight and obesity rates of adults have nearly doubled over the last two decades (up to 31 percent), contributing significantly to public health problems the government of the Philippines. In the Philippines, poverty and pervasive malnutrition are not limited to families of deprived seasonal workers. Undernourishment is endemic and increasing throughout most of this archipelago of some 7100 islands, and is compounded by the prevalence intestinal parasites and gastrointestinal diseases which health workers estimate deprive youngsters of at least 5-10% of the nutritional value in food they do consume. This problem is particularly prevalent in rural villages and city slums where many people eat with their fingers. Many bills attempting to address the state of hunger and malnutrition in the Philippines have brought before congress, but precious few have been eracted into law. Facing the broadness of the issue in the Philippines, civil society groups like Rise Against Hunger, The National Food Coalition and Gawad Kalinga have tried to help mitigate the issue in various ways. For examples: The Zero Hunger Bill lays under An Ecosystem of laws, and also several existing laws have been flagged as helping fight malnutrition in the country. A lot of them are desperate in terms of focus on the said law, some do not enjoy full or effective implementation provided. As mentioned these bills are included in helping fight malnutrition in the Philippines. Some of it are the EO 51: Milk Code, RA 6657: Comprehensive Agrarian. Reform Law (CARL), RA 7607: Magna Carta for small farmers, RA 8178: Agricultural Tariffication Act, RA 8550, Philippine Fisheries Code, RA 11037: Masustansyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act. These are just some of the bills implemented by the government. The RA 11307: Masustansyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act, this recently signed law calls on various government agencies to implement National Feeding Programs, mitigating both micronutrient deficiencies and caloric. The law hopes to feed children currently in school or in day care. This law provides the school for the children to lessen the malnutrition threats in the country. We are all aware that lot of families in the Philippines encountered hunger due to puberty wherein malnutrition is very vital due to the situation they are facing. That is why it is very important that the community, specially the school to cooperate with the government for the better outcome in resolving the issue for malnutrition. For example, in our barangay the day care center in cooperation with the stakeholders and parents they provide feeding programs every week for the day care students/children. Another example is that every barangays in our country had their own Barangay Health Workers or BHW, they also monitors the situation of every children within their community to know if how many children are malnourished, and do their jobs to prevent and fight malnutrition in the community, they also provide a free medicine and vitamins to the children. 3. To make sure that your family members meet the Recommended Dietary Allowance(RDA) with the food you are serving every day, prepare a one (1) week healthy meal plan for the family, Make a separate meal plan for each age group(40 pts.)
