1. Introduction

The general custom components called embeds in Tekla Structures include base bolts
(EB_BB*) and column shoes (EB_COSH*). Both are of undefined material, which is found
in all Tekla Structures environments. The bolts use undefined studs, which also are
included into all environments.

The default common parameters can be changed on dialog to match your own needs.
Product name is mapped to mainpart’s NAME field. Description and product code are UDA-
fields found in common environment’s objects.inp file. Product code can be used for
example in EPR data transfer.

2. Base bolts

There are 11 sizes of base bolts: ø 16, 20, 22, 24, 27, 30, 36, 39, 45, 52 and 60 mm.
All have short and long bolt types.

Naming conventions:

EB embed

BB16 base bolt + size of bolt

S short

L long

-2 alternative type

Common parameters:

Product name BB16

3. Column shoes

The column shoes are for bolts size 16, 20, 24, 30, 33, 36, 39, 45, 52 and 60 mm.

Naming conventions:

EB embed

COSH16 column shoe + size of base bolt

Common parameters:

Product name COSH16 (column shoe + size of hole)

Description Column_shoe

Product code COSH_16 (column shoe + size of hole)

Numbering prefix EB_COSH

4. Usage of embeds with Foundation-Column component

All the above mentioned embeds can be used with Foundation-Column component. The
component has ready-made attribute files for all base bolt and column shoe sizes.

Select the needed size from the drop down list and press the “Load” button; the pre-
saved values are filled into the dialog.

Accept the settings with “OK” button. Then pick first the foundation, then the column.

The base bolts and column shoes are created and attached automatically to the cast
units. Also the column cuts and fitting are made. The foundation can be a pad footing,
strip footing or a slab (made with contour plate).

Usage of embeds with Foundation-Column component 8 (8)

In case you have a round column, you need to adjust the placement of the embeds and
column cuts using cut offset and bolt location values on the dialog.

You can change the embed into another by using the C1 and C2 selection buttons on
the dialog.

This opens the Component catalog, where you can pick the new embed.

Then push the “Modify” button and the new embed is used in the component.
