Collaborate to Bring Quality Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care to Laredo
Community

Laredo, Texas – (May 19, 2023) – The San Antonio & South Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s
Association and the University of Texas Education and Research Center at Laredo (UT Center
at Laredo) are partnering to expand access to quality Alzheimer’s and dementia care, support
and educational programs in Laredo and the South Texas region.

The Alzheimer’s Association kicked off a series of educational events earlier this month at the
UT Center at Laredo. Monthly workshops will help community members better understand
Alzheimer’s and dementia and introduce them to local resources and support services in the
community. The series is open to all community members and will be presented in both English
and Spanish.

The Alzheimer’s Association and UT Center at Laredo will also continue to host additional
programs and services beyond the monthly series, such as “Community Plática” on Saturday,
May 27, giving community members the opportunity to speak directly with researchers about
Alzheimer’s and dementia caregiving, support and more.

As part of its commitment to serve the communities of Laredo and South Texas, the UT Center
at Laredo has partnered with the nationally recognized Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s &
Neurodegenerative Diseases at UT Health San Antonio to create the Dementia Care at UT
Center at Laredo. The center delivers comprehensive dementia care for families in Laredo,
Webb County and surrounding counties.

“University of Texas institutions have a fundamental mission to create a healthier Texas,” said
Adriana B. Nunemaker, Executive Director of the UT Center at Laredo. “Equally important is to
learn about dementia, support, caregivers and families who are emotionally affected when they
learn loved ones have a diagnosis of dementia. That is why our affiliation with the Alzheimer’s
Association, the leading voluntary health organization that champions care, support and
research, will offer valuable resources such as support groups and community education at the
UT Center at Laredo. We are so proud to partner with them because together we bridge the gap
between diagnosis and valuable education and support. With this disease, we need to be there
for one another.”

“The University of Texas Education and Research Center is a fantastic resource for the Laredo
community. They provide access to quality care right in the hometown of so many individuals
affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia in a more convenient and comfortable setting,” said Greg
Sciuto, the Alzheimer Association’s Region Leader and Executive Director of the San Antonio &
South Texas Chapter. “It is a partnership that feels natural as our goals are well-aligned. We are
excited for what we can accomplish together in Laredo.”
