INTRODUCTION.
Starting a t-shirt printing business is exciting and can be
rewarding; it offers a chance to be creative and to create
products that people will wear out in public. However,
like any business, starting a t-shirt printing business is
challenging.
Another factor to consider for starting up a t-shirt printing
business is that you don’t have to buy much equipment
to start. If you don’t want to invest in printing presses or
fabric printers, you can design the shirts and outsource
the printing to one of the many online printers.
Outsourcing keeps your initial expenses low.

TYPES OF FABRIC AND
THEIR COST PER METER.
1. COTTON
Cotton is the most common type of fabric that is used to make t shirts, but you
should remember that there are a few different types of cotton that can be used
for shirt production.
Types of Cotton:
Combed cotton. is created when short strands are eliminated, then fine
brushes straighten the FIBERS. This makes the fabric softer, smoother,
and stronger. It makes for a better material for printing.
Organic cotton is a softer, more comfortable and a popular option. It's
more expensive than regular cotton, and the cotton is grown without
many fertilizers or pesticides.
Pima cotton is known to be the
highest quality cotton that money can buy, with extralong FIBERS which
ensure the softness of the t shirt fabric. Pima cotton is durable - it resists
pilling, fading, and stretching SUPIMA is the same type of cotton as
Pima, but it's specifically grown in the US.
SU-PIMA COTTON is a shortened version of “superior Pima”, and
unlike Pima it is not a cotton variety but rather a trade organization that
trademarks its name to mills around the world and promotes Pima
cotton.
SLUB cotton is a type of cotton that looks like it has slight lumps in the
fabric. This is created before the cotton is weaved, where the cotton is
twisted, and the twists are irregular. SLUB cotton is unique - it’s light,
airy and does not cling to the body. It's also naturally textured, which
means that there is no need to iron it.
2. POLYESTER
Polyester is a synthetic fabric that’s
usually derived from petroleum. This fabric is one of the world’s most
popular textiles, and it is used in thousands of different consumer and
industrial applications.
PET (Ethylene polyester) is the most commonly-produced form of
polyester FIBER. It is the mostly used fibre for polyester T-SHIRTS.
PET (Ethylene polyester)
3. LINEN
Made from the flax plant, the textured weave dries quickly, making it
cool to wear. However, it wrinkles easily.
COST PER METER / WEIGHT.
RATES DEPENDS ON THE QUALITY OF FABRICS.THERE ARE SO MANY
TYPES OF COTTON AND LINON .RATES ARE GIVEN FOR THE MOSTLY
USED FABRIC IN T-SHIRTS.
FABRIC RATES PER METER RATES PER KG RATES AFTER PRINTING.
COTTON 25RS – 250RS 150RS-500RS 25RS – 1000RS
POLYESTER 20RS - 400RS 200RS-450RS 50RS - 1000RS
SILK 120RS - 350RS 200RS-800RS 1000RS-4000RS
THESE RATES ARE JUST APRROXIMATES.THIS MAY VARY ACCORDING TO
DIFFERENT SUPPLIERS.
Silk is mainly used in shirts they are less effective in T-shirt so there is very
low quantity of silk T-shirts or no quantity.
TYPES OF DESIGNING AND PRINTING
DESIGNING OF TSHIRTS REQUIRE.
DESIGNING SOFTWARE
COMPUTER WITH GOOD SPECS
SKETCH (DRAWING AND PAINTING)
SOME PEOPLE PREPARE THEIR DESIGN ON PAPER AND EVALUATE THEIR DESIGN
WITH THEIR OWN EMAGINATION AND PRINT THEIR OWN TSHIRTS.
DESIGNING SOFTWARE FOR TSHIRT ARE OF 5 TYPES WHICH ARE
MOSTLY USED.
ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR
GRAFFIC PRO STUDIO
INK SCAPE
COREL DRAW
THESE 5 SOFTWARES ARE THE MOSTLY USED SOFTWARE FOR TSHIRTS
DESIGN.
PRINTING OF T-SHIRT
VARIOUS TYPES OF PRINTING TSHIRTS.
1. SCREEN PRINITNG
Screen printing is a printing technique where a mesh is used to
transfer ink onto a substrate, except in areas made impermeable to the
ink by a blocking stencil. A blade or squeegee is moved across the
screen to fill the open mesh apertures with ink, and a reverse stroke
then causes the screen to touch the substrate momentarily along a line
of contact. This causes the ink to wet the substrate and be pulled out of
the mesh apertures as the screen springs back after the blade has
passed. One colour is printed at a time, so several screens can be
used to produce a multicoloured image or design .
2. DTG PRINTING (DIRECT TO GARMENT).
Direct-to-garment printing (DTG) is a process of printing
on textiles using specialized aqueous ink jet technology.
DTG printers typically have a platen designed to hold the
garment in a fixed position, and the printer inks are jetted or
sprayed onto the textile by the print head. DTG typically
requires that the garment be pre-treated with a PTM or Pre-
treatment machine allowing for the following:
Stronger bond between garment FIBERS and the
pigmented inks
Lays down loose FIBERS to provide for a smoother
substrate
Chemically reacts with the inks to promote drying and
curing
Since this is a digital process the print is sharper and has a
higher resolution.
‘
3. DYE SUBLIMATION PRINTING.
Dye-sublimation printing (or dye-sub printing) is
a computer printing technique which uses heat to transfer
dye onto materials such as a plastic, card, paper, or fabric.
The sublimation name was first applied because the dye was
considered to make the transition between the solid and gas
states without going through a liquid stage.
4. HEAT PRESS PRINTING.
This process is almost same as sublimation but in this process heat
transfer paper is used instead of sublimation paper.
In this process a print is transferred on the top layer of T-shirt
In sublimation A print is transferred inside the whole layer of T-shirt in
gas form which is more durable and long lasting.
5. VINYL CUTTING PRINITNG.
IN this type printing vinyl is printed with the help of Sublimation, Screen
and heat Printing.
OR vinyl is printed out with the help of printer and vinyl shape is cut off.
VINYL CUTTING MACHINE
IN ORDER TO USE A VINYL CUTTING PRINTING ITS NOT NECESSARY TO
BUY A MACHINE. A SIMPLE HAND CUT VINYL CAN BE USED FOR
PRINTING.
PAPER WITH VOID CAN BE PLACED ON THE TOP OF THE TSHIRT. THEN
COLOUR IS POURED THROUGH IT FOR A DESIGN.
