presenting the new lesson.
(Balik-aral at/o pagsisimula ng Look at this bond paper.
bagong aralin) How many line segments are there in its shape?
“Since the shape of the bond paper is rectangle, there are 4-line segments.”

ACTIVITY 1: ODD ONE OUT

Identify which of the following figure does not belong
B. Establishing a purpose for the to the group.
lesson (Paghahabi sa layunin ng
aralin)

What can you say about the figures that do not belong to the group? How about the other
figures?
(Indicator 3: Applied a range of teaching strategies to develop critical creative thinking as well
as higher order thinking skills)
What is a Polygon?
- The word “polygon” comes from the Greek word “poly”, which means “many” and
“gon” which means “angles.”

- Polygon is a closed plane figure formed by three or more segments called sides.

(Integration 1: Across the Curriculum - ARTS, Indicator 4: Hands-On Activity)

ACTIVITY 2: FIGURING IT OUT

Group activity.
Depending on how many sides the teacher specifies, create a polygon with a toothpick.

A polygon is classified by the number of sides it has.

Quadrilateral – four sides
Pentagon – five sides
Hexagon – six sides
Heptagon – seven sides
Octagon – eight sides
Nonagon – nine sides
Decagon – five sides

Convex and Concave Polygon

A polygon is convex if no diagonal is in the exterior of the polygon.

Concave polygons are polygons with at least one diagonal on

its exterior.

meaningful exploration, discovery and hands on activities within a range of physical learning
environments)

Identify if the given figure is a polygon or not. If it is a polygon, identify what kinds of polygon.

F. Developing Mastery
(Paglinang ng Kabihasnan)

Polygons aren’t just in textbooks.

THEY ARE EVERYWHERE.

Here are some examples or representations of polygons in real life.
