For most students, internship or On-the-Job Training (OJT) is considered one of the most

challenging requirements in completing a degree. It is often viewed as an arduous and

taxing part of being a student, especially for those who are about to graduate. However, in
my own perspective, an internship holds a lot of meaning and purpose. It is a boundless and
limitless avenue of opportunities that can enhance and develop one's skills and knowledge in
a chosen profession.

I was fortunate to be assigned to two productive offices this semester. I had the opportunity
to facilitate a public consultation for a proposed ordinance under the office of the SK
Federation President and City Councilor, Hon. Levy Lloyd Orcales. This experience allowed
me to exercise what I learned from the last 7 semesters and learn from the people who
provided their suggestions for the improvement of the ordinance. Moreover, my co-intern and
I were able to draft two ordinances under his office, which was a significant contribution to
the City of Baguio. Aside from that, I also worked at the Legal Office of the Department of
the Interior and Local Government (DILG) CAR, under Atty. Genevieve Shontogan. It was a
remarkable opportunity to meet people and learn through their convocations and
mini-seminars. Both offices provided me with invaluable knowledge and skills that will be
useful for my future endeavors and chosen profession.

Being an intern does not limit you to just delivering letters, typing, or making meals for the
regular office employees. Instead, it offers a vast array of opportunities to improve oneself.
As interns, we must maximize our chances to the fullest and open ourselves to talk with
people, discuss ideas, and be inquisitive about everything. It is not all about how difficult the
tasks are, but the acquisition of knowledge about the nature of the work and making sense
of what we learned during our class days.

Socializing with professionals and other people you work with can open up new doors of
opportunity for your future career. Internship provides an excellent avenue for networking,
which is one of the keys to success in any profession. You get to meet people from different
backgrounds and gain insights into their work, which can be valuable in your future job
search. Moreover, doing difficult tasks can create a sense of confidence and achievement,
especially when you know that your work will contribute to the success of the office or even
the community. It is important to appreciate every task assigned to you, no matter how small
or big it may be. It is an opportunity to practice and apply what you have learned in school,
and to demonstrate your abilities and skills to your supervisors. So embrace the challenges
that come with it, and don't limit yourself to just doing menial tasks.

Taking notes of what went wrong and mistakes throughout the internship also plays a crucial
role in the learning process. It helps you to be aware of potential mistakes in the future and
to avoid repeating them. It is also a way of keeping track of your progress and improvements
throughout the internship. In addition, internships can lead to personal growth and
development. It teaches the students to be responsible, disciplined, and proactive. It also
helps the students to develop communication and teamwork skills, which are essential in any
workplace.

Internship provides a boundless and limitless avenue of opportunities for students to hone
their skills and knowledge in their chosen profession, not only just a requirement for
graduation. It offers a practical learning experience that cannot be taught in the classroom
that can prepare you for your future endeavors. The exposure to the real-world environment
can be intimidating, but it prepares individuals to be more adaptable and flexible in different
situations. Interns are given the chance to work with professionals, learn from their
experiences, and apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. It is a challenging and
rewarding experience that allows students to apply what they have learned in the classroom
and acquire new skills and knowledge that they can use in the future. So if you are a
graduating student and assigned to any of the agencies or offices, make the best out of your
experience and embrace the challenges that you will face because it will be rewarding in the
end and will serve as a weapon to every obstacle you will face after your graduation.
