Warning notice system
This manual contains notices you have to observe in order to ensure your personal safety, as well as to prevent damage
to property. The notices referring to your personal safety are highlighted in the manual by a safety alert symbol, notices
referring only to property damage have no safety alert symbol. These notices shown below are graded according to
the degree of danger.
DANGER
indicates that death or severe personal injury will result if proper precautions are not taken.
WARNING
indicates that death or severe personal injury may result if proper precautions are not taken.
CAUTION
indicates that minor personal injury can result if proper precautions are not taken.
NOTICE
indicates that property damage can result if proper precautions are not taken.
If more than one degree of danger is present, the warning notice representing the highest degree of danger will be
used. A notice warning of injury to persons with a safety alert symbol may also include a warning relating to property
damage.
Qualified Personnel
The product/system described in this documentation may be operated only by personnel qualified for the specific
task in accordance with the relevant documentation, in particular its warning notices and safety instructions.
Qualified personnel are those who, based on their training and experience, are capable of identifying risks and
avoiding potential hazards when working with these products/systems.

Note
For reasons of simplification, the absolute encoder is simply called "encoder" in the remainder
of this manual.
The encoder has a maximum resolution of 65,536 steps per revolution (16 bit).
In addition, the multiturn version can scan up to 16,384 revolutions (14 bit).
As a consequence, the highest possible absolute resolution is 30 bit = 230 = 1,073,741,824 steps.
The standard singleturn version has a resolution of 16 bit.
The standard multiturn version has a resolution of 30 bit.

Parameter Description
Counting direction Parameter "Counting direction" defines whether the counter value increa‐
ses or decreases if the shaft rotates clockwise
Resolution per revolution Parameter "Resolution per revolution" is used to program the required
number of pulses per revolution. Any value between 1 and the physical
resolution per revolution can be programmed.
Total resolution This parameter is used to program the required number of count pulses
(steps) over the complete measuring range. This value must not exceed
the overall physical resolution of the absolute rotary encoder.
Preset value The "Preset value" is the position value required, which should be reached
at a certain physical position of the axis. The position value is set by pre‐
setting the parameter to the required process value.
Velocity The software that has been implemented can also specify the actual ve‐
locity. This value is transferred in the form of binary code together with the
process value.
One of four units can be selected: Pulses (steps) per 10 ms, per 100 ms, per
1000 ms and revolutions per minute

Note
Mounting instructions
It is only permissible to tighten the clamping ring if the shaft of the drive element is inserted in
the hollow shaft of the encoder.
Using a reducer, the hollow shaft diameter can be adapted to 12 mm, 10 mm or 8 mm. This
reducer is simply inserted into the hollow shaft.
