Pencil Hardness Tester

The Pencil Hardness Tester is a precise and reliable tool for evaluating the
hardness of a coating.

It utilizes the varying hardness values of graphite pencils to determine the

hardness rating of a coating. To begin the testing process, the pencil lead
must first be sharpened with a special sharpener and abrasive paper. The
lead is then inserted into the tester and pushed over the smooth and flat
coated surface. The hardness value of the pencil that marks the coating is
then used to determine the hardness rating of the coating.

The SIIN-501 is designed to ensure that the cylindrical pencil lead is

maintained at a constant angle of 45° and exerts a force of 7.5N (750 gm)
for accurate and consistent results.
