CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING
Introduction :
Financial problems for students is a situation in which you are not able to pay fees for school
over the short or long term. Actually financial plays an important role in students academic
performance. Financial problems are a serious issue that need to be addressed as it leads to
multiple problems such as health issues and academic performance.
One of the leading causes that students dropout of college is because of finances often due to
poor personal money management. Not being able to pay fees for school costs may affect your
study or you are not able to continue your studies at university. Negative outcomes of financial
stress cause :depression, anxiety, poor academic performance, poor health and difficulty
persisting towards degree completion. In order to overcome the financial problems, most
students make a decision of having to work part time or even working a full time job, which
takes away their time focusing on their academics. ( Run Savuth 2022)
The most common symptoms you will notice when facing financial problem is you are spending
more than you earning. The cost of living as a college student are high whereby, they usually
spend more than how much they earn, specifically for those who living away from family and
being independence for the first time. They do not know how to manage their budget and they
will use their money without any awareness and facing problem such as not enough money to
buy what they need. ( Halliday Wynes 2014)
Students in higher education require more money to cover the cost of the study and living in
universities as higher education costs in public and private institutions are on the rise. As a result
of limited financial resources and rising cost of education, there may be students struggling with
financial problems in their daily lives. Based on the above observation, this study aimed to
identify the financial problems faced by students. ( Daud et al.)

The objective of the study was to know what is the effect of the financial problem to the
academic performance of the college students.
This study will also be beneficial not only the researchers but also to the students of
Enthusiastic College Inc. for the awareness and deeper understanding on the effect of the
financial problem to the academic performance of College students.
CHAPTER II
REVIEW RELATED LITERATURE
Related Literature
This chapter present the related literature and studies which covers the study of the effect of
financial problem to the academic performance of college student to motivation of the
respondents where part of several literature materials will shown to fully understand the research
to be done.
According to Lifeline Australia (2016), financial problem is a situation where money worries are
causing individual stresses. Many people are facing hard financial times and the impact on
mental health, academic performance or motivation can be significant. This includes worrying a
lot or feeling anxious over money, arguing with the loved one, headaches, feeling unwell, and
difficulty in sleeping. feeling guilty spending money on non-essentials, anxiety, stress and even
failing grades in school. Many students believe that financial problems are having an adverse
effect on their academic performances Financial problems are quite common and they contribute
a huge percentage of motivation problems found in the school and workplace, In the most
scenarios, financial difficulties are a result of poor choices made by the individual that cause of
financial problem to the academic performance Poor financial is one of the main cause of
financial problem among students. In today's generation and economy the number one problem
is the lack of financial literacy Most students tend to fail managing their money These problems
are common among students who attempting to balance small budgets with living expenses and
also for those students who tend to spend a lot for their want and not for their needs. Financial
problem as the main reason for quitting school. Dropping out of school was most probable
among 17 years old particularly among those from the lowest income families.
This chapter consists of research design, locale of the study, respondents of the study, sampling
technique, data gathering, research instruments and statistical treatment.
Research Design
The researcher used the descriptive survey method. It is suitable to describe the
question about the effect of financial problem to the academic performance of College students.
Sampling Technique
This study used non-random, convenience and quota sampling. The researchers only
selected the respondents of the effect of financial problem to the academic performance of
College students in selected students first year to fourth year by course of Enthusiastic College,
Inc. 30 respondents have selected.
Research Instrument
The researcher were used self-made survey questionnaire;the first part why financial
problem affect the academic performance of College students, second are what kind of mental
health issue have been experiencing about financial problem that affect to the academic
performance of College students , third question is that why financial problem important
especially to college students.
Statistical Treatment of the Data
Inferential statistics used in the study such as the estimated population, mean, and
percentage .
CHAPTER IV
PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA
This chapter presents the analysis and interpretation of the data gathered from
respondents. The table 2 the type of mental health issue about the effect of financial problem to
the academic performance of College students in Enthusiastic College, Inc. It shows that out of
the 30 respondents, 40% of them experience lower grade in academic performance, 100%
experiencing mental health issue such as stress, lack of sleep and depression in 1 st year to 4rth
year of college students of Enthusiastic College Inc.

Table 1.1 shows that out of 30 respondent 40% of them experience lower grade in academic
performance.
Table 1.2 shows out of 30 respondents, the majority respondents are 100% experience mental
health issue in stress.
Table 1.3 shows that out of 30 respondents that majority of the respondents are female with 70 %
of theme while only sa 11 % are male.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
Summary of Findings
This study was conducted the effect of financial problem to the academic performance
of College students in Enthusiastic College, Incorporated. The data gathered by the respondents a
self-made survey questionnaire. The researcher used inferential statistics and non-random,
convenience and quota sampling technique. The survey questionnaire was composed of three
parts,which are Question 1 why financial problem affect the academic performance of College
students and second Table 2-the type of Mental Health Issue about The Effect Financial Problem
Academic Performance. The population of student are 146 and 40% of College students
experience Lower grade,55% experience stress, 25% lack of sleep and 1% experience
depression, female and male of College Students. Question number 3 about why financial
problem important to college students.
Conclusion
Base of the feedback revealed by respondents during the survey the researcher made known
that respondents are agreed about the effect of financial problem to the academic performance of
College students. Most of the respondents agreed that they experience mental health issue such
as stress, lack of sleep, depression and also lower grade.
Recommendation
Based on the finding of the researchers among the selected students by year level and
course , that to survived this kind of situation you need to balance your studies, doing extra
income and continue their studies even in the hardest situation of life to survived financial
problem that affect their academic performance.
