G7 LEAP - Week 2 SMAW

This document is a learner's packet for a technology and livelihood education class on shielded metal arc welding. It focuses on selecting measuring instruments and carrying out measurements and calculations. Students will learn to manipulate different measuring tools and take accurate measurements of objects. They will practice drawing a study table to measure its dimensions, find the perimeter of shapes in their home, and create a concept map on measuring tools and their functions. An assessment asks students to match measuring tools and terms. The goal is for students to understand how to use measuring tools and take measurements for welding jobs.

IV. LEARNING PHASES Learning Activities
Timeframe
A. Introduction
Panimula One very significant skill that you need to learn is the ability to manipulate measuring
tools especially in welding jobs. Different measuring tools perform different functions. You
will be exploring on the various measuring tools available at home and you will be guided
on how to get accurate measurements based on the given tools.

For My Plantita
The plantstand to the left measures the
1.8 feet and width of 1.2 feet.

What measuring tool are you going to

use to measure its exact height and
width of the flower stand?

Can you use more than one measuring

tools? If so, what are those?

B. Development Learning task 1: Draw Me A Box

Pagpapaunlad Direction: Using your ruler, draw a study table in your SMAW activity notebook and answer
the following questions.

1. What is the height, width, and length of the table?

2. What are the possible measuring tools that you use to measure the height, length, and
width?
3. What other measuring tool can you use in drawing the study table?

C. Engagement Learning task 2: The Shapes Inside My Home

Pakikipagpalihan Name one square object in your house. Get the measurement of each side in inches (in).
Find the perimeter.

Shape Name of Object Dimensions Calculated

in the house Perimeter
Square
D. Assimilation Learning task 3: My Own Understanding
Direction: Create a Concept Map with the following topics: Measuring Tools, Functions of
Measuring Tools, 3 basic shapes, and formulas of perimeter. The scores shall be based
on the following rubric:

3 points - Identifies all the important concepts and shows an understanding of the
relationships among them.
2 points - Identifies important concepts but makes some incorrect connections 1 point
Makes many incorrect connections.
0 point - Fails to use any appropriate concepts or appropriate connections.

V. ASSESSMENT Learning task 4:

(Learning Activity Sheets for Directions: Match the items in Column A with their meaning in Column B.
Enrichment, Remediation or Column A Column B
Assessment to be given on Weeks 3 1. Arc //A. A tool that can be rolled up and down.
and 6) 2. Width B. It is a one-foot-long measuring tool.
3. Push-pull rule //C. It is the horizontal distance from side to side.
4. Divider D. A tool used to layout arcs and circles.
5. Length E. Used to determine the dimension of an object.
6. Measuring tool F. It is a measure of vertical distance.
7. Try square G. It is also called a curved line.
8. Protractor H. A tool that is divided into 180 equal parts.
9. Height I. It describes how long an object.
