Chosen from a pool of applicants consisting of graduate level peers and colleagues to teach Advanced Oral Communication in the Monterey Institutes Summer Intensive English Program, which aims to prepare learners for English use in academic settings Assessed incoming student oral proficiency using dynamic assessment methods based on ACTFL guidelines Designed and operationalized a student-centered project-based curriculum for 11 students with 4 distinct linguistic backgrounds Incorporated numerous elements of peer and self-assessment through the use of Voicethread, peer reviewed projects, and Google sites Collaborated with students to assess linguistic needs, interests, and set individual and class goals

Selected to participate as the only non-Japanese English teacher at a public senior high school as a member of one of Japans largest and most selective cultural exchange programs run by Japans Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with local governments Created original English lesson plans and team taught with Japanese colleagues to deliver 12-14 lessons per week to high school sophomores and juniors Wrote the scripts and made recordings for a daily 5-minute English test taken by every student at 8:30am (topics included the following: cultural differences between Japan and America; American high school life; conversational English; music; and current events) Assisted a Japanese teacher in managing and planning activities for the school English club which included participation in English language competitions, internet based research on foreign countries followed by presentations and organized volunteer fundraising events for UNESCO, Building Communities and KI-Care Coached two 1st place and two 3rd place students in the local Lions Club English Speech contest Joined the school chorus as a tenor , prepared students for local choir competitions, occasionally conducted, and assisted the choir director in producing 3 English musical medleys at the yearly school concert
