Mini Project

The document contains 8 questions related to the design of reinforced concrete and steel structures: 1. Calculate the steel area required for a reinforced concrete beam resisting 120 kNm moment. 2. Design a rectangular beam with 6m span under dead and live loads using C40 concrete and fyk=300 MPa steel. 3. Determine the moment of resistance of a 250x400mm section using C25 concrete and fyk=415 MPa steel. 4. Find the economical UC steel section to support an axial load of 500kN with fixed ends and 4.5m length. 5. Find the economical UB steel section laterally restrained against bending of 180k

Mini project (30%)

(Assume necessary data if any)

1. Calculate the area of steel required for a singly reinforced concrete beam 300 mm wide

and 500 mm deep to resist an ultimate moment of 120 kNm. Concrete mix C30 and steel

having fyk = 360 MPa are used. Consider effective cover as equal to 30 mm.

2. Design a rectangular beam for 6 m effective span which is subjected to a dead load of 20

kN/m and live load of 2 kN/m. Use C40 concrete and steel having fyk = 300 MPa.

3. Determine the moment of resistance of the section 250 mm wide and 400 mm deep. C25

concrete and steel having fyk = 415 MPa are used. Consider effective cover as equal to

40 mm and use four 12 mm diameter bars

4. Find the economical UC profile of Fe360 steel grade to carry an axial compressive force

of Nsd = 500kN. The column is fixed ended and has an effective length, l = 4.5m.

5. Find the economical UB grade Fe510 is laterally restrained against lateral buckling

subjected to a factored bending moment of 180 KNm about the major axis , 40KNm

about the minor axis and the axial force the beam can carry is 650 KN.

6. The Reinforced concrete 300x400mm Column shown below is having eight 16mm

diameter bars. Calculate the ultimate capacity to resist compressive and tensile

force if (a) L=4m

Take, fy =460 N/mm2
fck =35N/mm2
Ec = 24GPa L
Es= 200GPa

7. The building shown in below is to be built in Hossaina. The details of the terrain and the position
of the building are shown in the figure. The building is hospital. Elevation of the existing
ground level at the building site is 1500m. Calculate the wind load acting on the roof. Use Φ = 0.2
, s = 0.3667 ,Cpi=-0.15
8. A six storied building has an elevation of 20 m and is located in hossaina Determine the base

shear forces at the ground due to earthquake using Total weight of the building 4456 KN and

decide the necessary properties.
