Conflict is a literary element that involves a struggle between two opposing forces, usually a protagonist
and an antagonist. Conflict can be internal or external.
1. Person vs. Person – Characters conflicts, whether between heroes and villains or sparring
lovers.
2. Person vs. The Supernatural – Conflicts with vampires, werewolves, aliens, and ghosts or
typically unbelievable, supernatural, or inexplicable phenomena.
3. Person vs. Nature – A character against some force of nature such as animal or the weather.
4. Person vs. Him/Herself – A character battling the bad/good side of themselves, or when they
simply wanted to be a better person.
5. Person vs. Technology – Conflict between characters and the results of scientific discovery.
