• Functional Safety is a concept employed to describe
IEC61508 Certified
the reliability of the equipment such as EMEX CPS by
which its operation is required to provide power to
luminaires in the event of interruption of the normal
lightings
• The IEC 61508 standards addresses all safety
requirements for E/E/PE elements that are used to
perform Safety Functions KM 673347
• ABB EMEX CPS Systems has been assessed as per
IEC61508 standards covering the safety lifecycle of
the product - from the initial concept through design,
implementation, operation and maintenance to
decommissioning.

EMEX Addressable Solution
Modularity of EMEX Central Power Supply Systems EMEX SYSTEM
EMEX CPS System is built around five major components:
1. Inverter Module
2. Charger Module
3. System Interface
4. Changeover Contactor
5. Display

Modules are Common across the entire EMEX CPS range

which Reduce spares holding and cost

All modules connect to a common control bus (Ribbon

Cable IDC) Allowing modules to be changed easily

EMEX Addressable Solution
Modularity of EMEX Central Power Supply Systems EMEX SYSTEM
• The modular format of EMEX CPS uses star connected system
as this favours the modular concept
• Using 2 standard modules 1.5KVA & 3KVA allows the factory to
design different sizes as required up to 81KVA
• The system is a true three phase inverter system with 4 wire
output distribution the load is shared across the 3 incoming
phases
• Upon mains failure the inverter runs supplying three individual
outputs separated by 120degree phase shift via the
changeover device.
• Each TPN system uses same building blocks as others i.e each
phase consist of a charger module, master inverter and slave
inverter module
• TPN system steps up in 4.5kva increment

MXC Substation & LTC (Lamp Test Controller) EMEX SYSTEM
• The LTC & MXC forms part of the EMEX Test
automatic testing system
• EMEX Software PC can handle up to 256 x CPS (over 1
million luminaires
• MXC is an ideal solution for large number of
luminaires fed from a dedicated EM-DB board
• MXC enables mains borne signaling communication
on the same circuit. No Data cable required.
• The substation has a microprocessor that performs all
transmit / receive functions and system messaging
• 40 luminaires (maximum) per MXC
• 2 circuits, 5 Amp, 20 luminaires each
• 8 inputs for circuit monitoring
• LTC conversion required for third-party luminaires
• Simple Wiring example:

receive functions and system messaging and measure
luminaire power
• LTC provides control and addressing functions within
luminaires
• LTC provides additional local switched input to allow
direct individual switched control of the luminaire if
required
• LTC conversion required for third-party luminaires

ELD1320.002 System Interface
The system interface module makes
the translation between the real world
signals and the display control
signals. The system interface
monitors the mains, measures DC
voltage, AC voltage and current and
drives the contactor.

• Two sets of volt-free alarm relay

contacts
• Final exit interlock Fire alarm
interface
• Sub-circuit monitor connection
• Internal and external MCB
monitoring
• Local/remote maintained circuit
control
