Chapter 9 of NBCP

This document outlines sanitation requirements and regulations for building projections over public streets. It discusses the need for adequate water supply, plumbing, wastewater treatment, storm drainage, and pest control to protect public health. Buildings must connect to water and sewage systems, and properly drain rainwater. Structures cannot project over property lines or obstruct streets, and balconies/awnings require minimum clearances above sidewalks. Corner buildings may require chamfered edges at intersections.

Buildings must provide adequate water supply, plumbing, wastewater treatment, storm
water drainage, pest and vermin control, and noise abatement to protect and promote
health.
SECTION 902. Water Supply System

Provide potable water that meets approved standards from either the existing
waterworks system or compliant deep wells/independent waterworks systems. Water piping
installations must also comply with the National Plumbing Code.

SECTION 903. Wastewater Disposal System

Buildings must discharge sanitary sewage directly into the sewerage system or use
"Imhoff" tanks and absorption fields for sewage disposal.

SECTION 904. Storm Drainage System

Rainwater must not flow into the sanitary sewer system, and low areas in buildings and
their premises must have proper drainage.

SECTION 905. Pest and Vermin Control

Hollow and/or wood constructed buildings must have rat proofing, garbage bins and
receptacles should be protected from pests, and dining rooms must be screened for public
use.

SECTION 906. Noise Pollution Control

Industrial establishments must use noise abatement devices to reduce noise.

SECTION 907. Pipe Materials

Pipe materials must comply with Philippine Standard Council specifications.
CHAPTER 10
BUILDING PROJECTION OVER PUBLIC STREETS
SECTION 1001. General Requirements

Buildings and structures must be inside the property line, and any projections over public
property must be measured horizontally.
SECTION 1002. Projection into Alleys or Streets

Structures and appendages must not project into public roads, and footings should not
go beyond 300 millimeters from the property line. Foundations may encroach into public
sidewalk areas, provided they do not obstruct existing utilities or require rerouting.

SECTION 1003. Projection of Balconies and Appendages Over Streets

Balconies and appendages must have a uniform projection, with a 3.00 meter clearance
between the street and balcony.

SECTION 1004. Arcades

(a) Arcades must be constructed on sidewalks, with a uniform width and height, and not
less than 3.00 meters above the sidewalk grade.
SECTION 1005. Canopies (Marquees)

A canopy is a permanent roof structure over a building door with objects or decorations.
A marquee must have a horizontal clearance of at least 300mm and 3.00m from the curb line. It
must be constructed of fire-resistant materials and designed with drainage. Marquees must not
obstruct standpipe connections or stairway exits.

SECTION 1006. Movable Awnings or Hoods

Awnings are movable shelters supported by an exterior wall, with a clearance of at least
300mm from the curb line and 2.40 meters height. Collapsible awnings should not block
exits when collapsed.

SECTION 1007. Doors, Windows, and the like

Doors, windows, and other objects must not project beyond the property line,
except fire exit doors.
SECTION 1008. Corner Buildings with Chaflans

Corner buildings must have a truncated corner with a right-angled triangle at the
intersection, except for buildings less than 12.00 meters wide and with arcades, which do not
require a chamfer.
