Stat Activity 2

The document summarizes the results of Activity 3, which analyzed the probability distribution of defective cellphones. It provides the probability of different numbers of defective cellphones (ranging from 0 to 4). It then calculates the mean/expected value as 0.95 defective cellphones, the variance as 0.14475, and the standard deviation as 0.38 defective cellphones. The analysis involved calculating the probability weighted values of x, x-μ, and (x-μ)2 to determine the variance and standard deviation based on the given formulas.

Table
Random Probability X • P(x) X-µ (X - µ)² (X - µ)² • P(x)
variable X
P(x)
0 0.50 0 -0.95 0.9025 0.45125

1 0.25 0.25 0.05 0.0025 0.000625

2 0.10 0.2 1.05 1.1025 0.11025

3 0.10 0.3 2.0 4.2025 0.42025

4 0.05 0.2 3.0 9.3025 0.465125

∑P(x)=1 µ= ∑x • P(x)= ∑(x - µ)2 • P(x)

0.95
= 0.14475

Mean value or Expected value

Find the mean:

E(x) = µx = ∑x • P(x)
= [(0) (0.50) + (1) (0.25) + (2) (0.10) + (3) (0.10) + (4) (0.05)
= 0 + 0.25 + 0.2 + 0.3 + 0.2
E(x) = µx = 0.95
Variance
Find the Variance:
Var(x) = σ2x = ∑(x - µ)2 • P(x)
= [(0- 0.95)²(0.50) + (1-0.95)²(0.25) + (2-0.95)²(0.10) + (3-0.95)²(0.10) + (4-0.95)²(0.05)]
= 0.45125 + 0.000625 + 0.11025 + 0.42025 + 0.465125
= 0.14475

Standard Deviation

σx = √∑ (x - µ) • P(X)

= √0.14475
= 0.3804602476
= 0.38

Hence, the Variance is 0.14475and the Standard Deviation is 0.38.

First slide:
Good morning, everyone, I’m the reporter from the group 2. And we are assigned to do the
Activity 2 which is to identify the number of defective cellphones and its variance and standard
deviation.

But before that, let us know these three, the mean, variance and standard deviation. So in
simple term;
Mean – is the central location of a random variable or the weighted average of the values
Variance – is the measure of spead
Standard deviation – is the measure of variability

Next slide:
This is the probability distribution of defective cellphones from the previous activity. And for
today we’ll going to determine its variance and standard deviation.

Next slide:
To solve for X • P(x), just simply multiply the number of defective cellphone or the random
variable by the corresponding probability.

Next slide:
This is the formula on how to get the mean (explain)
Next slide:
To solve for X - µ, simply subtract the number of defective cellphone or the random variable by
the expected value or mean. Then squared (explain)

Next slide:
This is now our final table (explain)

Next slide:
Then determine the variance and standard deviation, by simply substitute the values
The formula for variance: σ2x = ∑ (x - µ) • P(X)
The formula for standard deviation: σx = √∑ (x - µ) • P(X)
