Core Accounting 22 (Statistical Analysis With Software Application)

The document defines the key elements of statistical analysis: gathering and collecting data through surveys and interviews; presenting data visually through graphs; and analyzing and interpreting data by assigning meaning to findings and determining conclusions based on examples related to population growth projections. Core Accounting 22 – Statistical Analysis with Software Application

Assignment:
Define the elements gathering, collecting of data, presentation/organizing, analysis, and
interpretation of data and give examples.

Preparation:

1. Gathering and Collection of Data:

 It is the process of gathering and measuring information on variables of interest, in an
established systematic fashion that enables one to answer stated research questions, test
hypotheses, and evaluate outcomes. The data collection component of research is
common to all fields of study including physical and social sciences, humanities,
business, etc. While methods vary by discipline, the emphasis on ensuring accurate and
honest collection remains the same.

Example:
A good example of data collection would be surveys and interviews conducted on the
general public. Another example would be the use of polls or focus groups to gather data.

2. Presentation of Data:
 Data presentation is defined as the process of using various graphical formats to visually
represent the relationship between two or more data sets so that an informed decision can
be made based on them.

Example:

3. Analysis and Interpretation of Data:

 Data analysis and interpretation is the process of assigning meaning to the collected
information and determining the conclusions, significance, and implications of the
findings. The steps involved in data analysis are a function of the type of information

collected; however, returning to the purpose of the assessment and the assessment
questions will provide a structure for the organization of the data and a focus for the
analysis.

Example:
Through the process of data analysis and interpretation, what can we learn from
the graph above? It is expected that by the year 2100, our population would
balloon up to 10.9 billion. Although that information alone is lacking, but when
we pair it up with the information about how many people the planet Earth can
sustain, we can definitely know that we are above carrying capacity. According to
the news report of The Guardian, “The optimum population of Earth – enough to
guarantee the minimal physical ingredients of a decent life to everyone – was 1.5
to 2 billion people rather than the 7 billion who are alive today or the 9 billion
expected in 2050, said Ehrlich in an interview with the Guardian.” This means
that in the near future, we can no longer sustain ourselves any longer.
Dehydration, starvation and famine will run rampart all over the globe if we do
not do anything in the present.
