Please study this Installation Guide prior to installing Sesam software.

2 BEFORE INSTALLING

Please be aware of the following before you start the Sesam 2017 installation:

 Supported platforms:

o Windows 7 64-bit

o Windows 8.1 64-bit

o Windows 10 (except Pipeline Tools, see below)

 At least 2 GB free disk space is required for a full installation.

 Perform the installation from a user with administrator privileges.

 Have a license file available for Sesam (or the address of the network license service – the
License Service running on a different computer) when installing on a new computer.

 On Windows 7: .NET 4.0 or higher must be installed prior to Sesam installation. If not installed,
setup will not start and you will see a message like

To install .NET Framework 4.5, run the setup program found in subfolder Redists on the
installation medium:
Redists\Microsoft .net\4.5\Full\NDP452-KB2901907-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe

 Microsoft Word is a prerequisite for installing ReportBuilder with Xtract.

 Pipeline Tools

o Microsoft Excel is a prerequisite

 Version must be MS Office 2010 32-bit version

 no support for MS Office 365/2016 nor any 64-bit version of MS Office

o Not supported on

 Windows 10

3 HOW TO INSTALL

A list of the current Sesam programs can be found in Section 8 of “Sesam 2017 Release
Documentation.pdf”.

Open the distribution folder and double-click ‘Setup.exe’ to launch ‘DNV GL - Software Installer’.

Remember that you will need administrative privileges on your computer to install the Sesam
applications.

Click the checkbox to accept the terms in the license agreement:

If one or more Sesam applications are installed on your computer, the ‘Maintenance dialog’ will open.

Check ‘Configure Destination folders and License Manager’ if you want to change the default installation
paths or install/configure License Manager.

If it is the first Sesam installation on your computer, the ‘Destination folders’ dialog will open by default.

Uncheck ‘Use default folders’ to change the destination folders:

These settings will be remembered for future setups on the same computer with the same user, and will
also be used for silent installation.

If License Manager is not yet installed, you should install it now. Click Next to start. See chapter License
Manager for further details.

3.1 Selecting packages/applications to install
By default, all available applications on the distribution medium will be selected for installation unless
you have already installed a newer version of an application.

To change the default selection, check/uncheck the ones you want to install/not install.

There are several icons used in the checkboxes showing the selection/installation status. Click ‘Icons
descriptions’ for explanation.

The Description pane gives additional information about the application or package selected, which
version is already installed and the version available on the installation medium. Click ‘Next’ when you
have finished selecting the applications to install.

The selected applications are listed. Click ‘Start’ to start the installation. A dialog box with a progress bar
will appear for each application, one at a time.

When all selected applications have been installed, click ‘Finish’ to exit the installer.

During installation, you may click ‘Stop’ to stop the current ongoing installation. Software Installer will
stop after the current installation is finished (like Fatfree in the screen dump below).

If there are remaining applications to be installed, it is possible to resume installation.

Press Continue to resume installation of the remaining application, or Cancel to quit setup.

4 SILENT INSTALLATION

4.1 Install applications silently using Software Installer

Open a command prompt, go to the installation folder, and type

setup.exe /?

in order to see a list of available command line options.

Tip:

Press Ctrl+C to copy

the text in this window
to the clipboard.
Use parts of the pasted
text to e.g. uninstall all
programs.

If you need the exit code from the setup, you should prefix the command with start/wait as shown in
the example below.

To update the applications that are already installed on a computer only, type:

start /wait setup UPDATE_ONLY_INSTALLED_APPLICATIONS

NOTE:
UPDATE_ONLY_INSTALLED_APPLICATIONS cannot be combined with any INSTALL_APPLICATION… arguments.

Output will be written to standard output, i.e. to the command window from where the job started.
Example output from the command:

5 UNINSTALLATION
You may uninstall a set of Sesam applications using Software Installer.

Select the applications you would like to uninstall.

6 REDISTRIBUTABLES

Software Installer will install the redistributable packages which are required to run Sesam
automatically, except for .NET framework 4, which must be installed prior to running Software Installer.
If required, .NET framework 3.5 must also be installed manually, see notes below.

The following software is included in the Redists folder, and will be installed automatically if required by
the selected Sesam package(s):

VC 2015 Redist\vc_redist.x86.exe : Visual C++ 2015 redistributable for 32-bit applications

VC 2015 Redist\vc_redist.x64.exe : Visual C++ 2015 redistributable for 64-bit applications
VC2010\vcredist_x86.exe : Visual C++ 2010 redistributable for 32-bit applications
VC2010\vcredist_x64.exe : Visual C++ 2010 redistributable for 64-bit applications
VC2008\vcredist_x86.exe : Visual C++ 2008 redistributable for 32-bit applications
VC2005\vcredist_x64.exe : Visual C++ 2005 redistributable for 64-bit applications
DirectX9c-June2010\DXSETUP.exe : DirectX9 (used by GeniE, DeepC and Sima)

The following software is included in the Redists folder, and will not be installed automatically:

dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe : .NET framework 4

dotnetfx35.exe : .NET framework 3.5
rootsupd.exe : Update for root certificates for Windows

Note:

 dotnetfx35.exe is required in some configurations to run HydroMesh and Digin, and is therefore
only available in the Redists folders for SesamPackage, HydroDPackage and DeepCPackage.

 An error like the one below probably means that the root certificates on your computer must be
updated. Run rootsupd.exe to update the root certicicates.

7 AFTER INSTALLATION
After installing the software, log on with the user that will run the Sesam programs and start ‘Application
Version Manager’ for an initial configuration.

8 LICENSE MANAGER

Check Configure Destination folders and ‘License Manager’ to install/configure License Manager:

Press Next in the ‘Destination folders’ dialog to get to the License configuration screen:

Press ‘Install and Configure’ to install License Manager:

License Manager setup is described in a separate installation guide.

When finished, go back to ‘DNV GL - Software Installer’ and click ‘Next’ to continue the Sesam
installation.

9 TROUBLESHOOTING
 The following redistributables should be installed automatically when starting the installation
program:

o Visual C++ redistributables

o DirectX9 (used by GeniE and Sima)

If the installation program fails to install these, they can be installed manually from the subfolder
Redists.

 Xtract installation is not possible to install if Microsoft Word is not present on your computer.

 Pipeline tools is not possible to install if Microsoft Excel is not present on your computer.

Customer login portal for Sesam.
