What Is Computer

A computer is an electronic device that processes data under programmed instruction. It has three main elements - peopleware, software, and hardware. Peopleware refers to computer users and professionals like programmers and analysts. Software includes operating systems and applications that run on computers. Hardware are the physical devices that make up a computer system, such as the central processing unit, memory, storage, input/output components, and peripheral devices. Charles Babbage is considered the father of computers for conceiving the idea of programmable calculation machines in the 1800s. ENIAC, built in the 1940s, was the first general-purpose electronic digital computer. It helped perform ballistics calculations for the military.

REPORT EXPLANATION

WHAT IS COMPUTER?
Explanation: When most people hear the word computer, some may think of a personal
computer such as a desktop or laptop. However, computers come in many shapes and sizes, and
they perform many different functions in our daily lives. When you withdraw cash from an
ATM, scan groceries at the store, or use a calculator, you're using a type of computer.
A computer is an electronic device that manipulates information, or data. Manipulates
information means in website that is found in computer we can change what is written there, we
can add some information that we already know.
It has the ability to store, retrieve, and process data. We use this electronic device to type
documents, send email, play games, and browse the Web. We can also use it to edit or create
spreadsheets, presentations, and even videos.
Charles Babbage is considered by many to be the "father of the computer."
- He was an English mathematician who first conceived the thought of an electronic
computer, but it was not until 1991 that a data processor was built physically.
- Ibig sabihin ay he came up with the idea or concept of a computer that uses electronic
components to process information.
- kasi diba this is a fundamental step in the development of electronic computers. It likely
involved understanding the basic principles of electronics and how they could be applied
to computing.
- he was the primary to bring the thought of computers into everyday household lives.

Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer

-ENIAC was the most powerful calculating device built to date. It was the first programmable
general-purpose electronic digital computer.
-It was a powerful calculating device built for the United States Army to calculate artillery firing
tables during World War II, but its flexibility and versatility allowed it to be used for a wide
range of computing problems.
ELEMENTS OF A COMPUTER
Explanation: A computer is made up of different elements. These elements make the computer
work or function. All these elements are very important for the computer. If one is missing, the
computer cannot work.
There are three elements of computer.
Peopleware: This is the element where we belong. Everyone who uses the computer is a
peopleware. Isn’t it that man created the computer because he needs it? We must remember that
the computer is just a machine. Without the people, computers are useless. They are the ultimate
“users” of the computer systems. There are three types of people that interact with the system,
namely.
Programmers: Professionals who write the computer programs that allow users to interact with
the computer. They must have technical knowledge of computers and computer languages.
System Analyst: They mainly design data processing systems and solve problems that arise in
data processing.
End-Users: Also known as operators, they are the people who interact with the computer
system.
Software: is any set of instructions that tells the hardware what to do and how to do it. It
includes the programs which we see on the monitor that help us finish our work faster. People
cannot use the computer without the software because the computer cannot run without
instructions to follow. Example of software are Games, MS Window, MS Excel, MS Paint.
Basically, there are six main types of software, which are as follows:
Operating System: These specialized programs allow the communication between software and
hardware. The operating systems run all the other computer programs, and even regulate the
startup process of the computer. Examples: Windows XP, Macintosh etc.
Application Software: These are designed to perform a specific task or a bunch of tasks. They
can be user-designed (specific to the user’s needs) or readymade application software. Example:
PowerPoint, Tally etc.
Utility Software: Like operating systems, it is a system software. It helps maintain and protect
the computer system. For example, Anti-virus software is a utility software.
Language Processors: Software that interprets computer language and translates it into machine
language. It also checks for errors in language syntax and fixes the problems.
System Software: These types of software control the hardware, the reading of the data and
other such internal functions.
Connectivity Software: The special software that facilitates the connection between the
computer system and the server. This allows the computer to share information and communicate
with each other.
Hardware: The different computer parts are called the Hardware. They are tangible, you can see
and touch them. Every part of the computer is a hardware element, no matter how tiny it is.
Hardware components are the electronic or mechanical instruments, like keyboard, monitor,
printer etc. They help the users interface with the software, and also display the result of the
tasks being performed.
Hardware can actually be of four types, depending on which function they perform. The
four types of hardware are:
Input Hardware: For users to input data into the computer system. Examples: Keyboard,
mouse, Scanner
Output Hardware: To translate and display the result of the data processing =. Example:
Monitor Screen, Printer etc.
Processing and Memory Hardware: Where data and information are processed and
manipulated to perform the task at hand. It is also the workspace of the computer, where it
temporarily stores data. Examples: Central Processing Unit (CPU), Read Only Memory (RAM)
Secondary Storage Hardware: Where the computer system stores data permanently. Example:
Hard disk, Pen drive etc.
Data: Data is the organized and processed collection of facts and figures and becomes
information. Through computer systems, data can be transformed into information that can be
used for decision-making purposes. Therefore, data is a critical input to the computer system to
generate meaningful information.
Conclusion: Everything you do on your computer will rely on both hardware and software. For
example, right now you may be viewing this lesson in a web browser (software) and using your
mouse (hardware) to click from page to page. As you learn about different types of computers,
ask yourself about the differences in their hardware. As you progress through this tutorial, you'll
see that different types of computers also often use different types of software.
Computers are an essential part of modern life, used in a wide range of fields and industries to
process and organize data into meaningful information. They have revolutionized the way we
communicate, work, learn, and entertain ourselves. With advancements in technology, computers
continue to evolve, becoming more powerful, smaller, and more accessible to people worldwide.
They have significantly impacted our lives and are expected to play an even greater role in
shaping our future.
What is Computer and the Elements of Computer
By: Julian E. Entrealgo
Lloydhenry Rodriguez

Objectives:
 Define what computer is.
 Explain the elements of a computer.
Computer
A computer is an electronic device, operating under the control of instructions stored in
its own memory that can accept data (input), process the data according to specified rules,
produce information (output), and store the information for future use.

“Father of the Computer”

Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer
ENIAC, the first programmable general-purpose electronic digital computer, built during World
War II by the United States. American physicist John Mauchly, American engineer J.

Three elements of a computer:

 Peopleware
 Software
 Hardware

Peopleware
It refers to the role people play in technology and the development of hardware or
software. It can include various aspects of the process such as human interaction, programming,
productivity, teamwork, and project management.
Software
Software is a set of instructions, data or programs used to operate computers and execute
specific tasks.

Hardware
Hardware refers to the external and internal devices and equipment that enable you to
perform major functions such as input, output, storage, communication, processing, and more.

Data
Data is essentially the raw facts and figures that we input in the computer. The data gets
processed via the computer system and becomes information, which is processed and organized
data. Information can then be used for decision-making purposes.
