Learning Competency: Use the degrees of adjectives in making comparisons


(positive, comparative, superlative)

Adjectives are words that describe nouns. There are three degrees of
comparison of adjectives.
The positive is used to describe one item, group or person.
The comparative is used when comparing two items, groups, or persons.
The superlative is used when comparing three or more items, objects or
persons or when one object is compared to many.
There are different ways to form the comparative and superlative degrees of
adjectives. Add -er or more to form the comparative of most one- or two-
syllable adjectives. Add -est or most to form the superlative form. More, most,
less, least are added to adjectives of three or more syllables.

Learning Competency: Recognize Adverbs of Manner

In this activity sheet, you will learn to recognize the adverbs of manner
An adverb is a word or an expression that modifies a verb, adjective, another
adverb, determiner, clause, preposition, or sentence.
Adverbs of manner tell us how someone does something or how something
happens. It answers the questions how? They usually come after the main verb,
after the object or not between the verb and object.
Example:
The boy drank quickly. [after the verb]
The boy drank the water quickly. [after the object]
The boy quickly drank the water. [NOT between the verb and object]

Most adverbs of manner end in –ly. Exceptions include well, hard, late, and
fast.
Another Example:
1. She spoke softly. (How she speaks?)
2. Bryan coughed loudly. (How Bryan cough?)
3. The turtle walks slowly. (How the turtle walks?)

Interpreting simple maps, signs, and
symbols is an essential skill everyone must have.
The Four Primary Directions
This skill may come in handy during trips out of
town, around the neighborhood, or when you just
want to learn your basic Geography.

Learning Competency: Read words with affixes

An affix is a syllable or letter/s added to a root word. It has meaning on


its own. It changes the meaning of a word it is attached with.
An affix can either be a prefix (if it is added at the beginning of a root
word) or a suffix (if it is added at the end of a root word).

formed.

A. Plants have local and scientific names. Some scientific names are hard to

Let Us Study
Read the words below.

What do they have in common? The six words above all contain
two consecutive letters sounded as one. Like in the word “clean” the two letters
ea are pronounced as one sound \i\. In the words “pail” and “say”, we
pronounce ai and ay as \ey\. In the word “food”, oo are pronounced as \u\. The
oa in the word “road” are pronounced as \ow\ while the ee in the word “feet”
are pronounced as \I\.
The group of two successive letters that are pronounced as a single
sound is called digraph. In this lesson, you will read words containing vowel
digraphs. This type of digraph makes a single vowel sound. Example of this are
ea, ai, ay, oo, oa, and ee.

Learning Competency: Read words with vowel diphthongs: oy (boy), oi
(boil), ou (out) ow (bow)

Diphthongs are glided vowel sounds that combine two individual sounds
within a single syllable. Common diphthongs in English are /oy/ as sound in
the word boy, /oi/ as sound in the word coil, /ou/ as sound in the word out
and /ow/ as sound in the word bow . This diphthong can be spelled with the
letters o-y, o-i, o-u and o-w. Because of the spelling variations for each
diphthong, readers need to choose between two possible spellings when they
wish to spell a diphthong word.

Learning Competency: Read phrases, sentences and short stories consisting of


vowel diphthongs: oi,oy,ou,ow

Diphthongs refer to a sound formed by the combination of two vowels in a


single syllable, in which the sound begins as one vowel and moves toward
another.
Examples of diphthongs are oi as on foil, oy as in toy, ou as in about, and ow
as in bowl.

Learning Competency: Present Information in Varied Artistic Ways


In this activity sheet, you will learn to present information in varied artistic
ways.
A presentation is the process of communicating a certain topic to others. It is
typically a demonstration, introduction, lecture, or speech meant to inform,
inspire, motivate, or to present a new idea or information.
Information needs to be presented clearly and in the most appropriate way
possible.

There are different ways on presenting information such as:


1. Role playing- assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. They
take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, literal
acting.
2. Show and tell- is the practice of showing something to an audience and
describing it to them
3. Radio play- characters in each story using their voice and facial
expressions.
4. Broadcast- transmit information through radio or television.
5. Reporting- presents information in an organized format for a specific
audience and purpose.
6. Video presentation- is a popular form of multimedia presentation with a
duration of several seconds or minutes that shows the benefits of an idea
with the help of interesting graphic images, concise text, and appropriate
narration.
7. Poster presentation- A poster should use photos, figures, and tables.
8. Slideshow Presentation- is an exposition of a series of slides or images
in an electronic device or in a projection screen.
9. Graphic Organizer- the data is represented by geometric forms and
symbols, such as bars, lines, charts, points, and areas.
