The Way of Nature

'Mom! Sally has got babies!'
Jane turned around to see her four- year-old daughter Tara jumping in excitement. Tara dragged her to the
rabbit enclosure-a large, netted cage made out of an old refrigerator crate. They had put quantities of dry
grass and an old woolen sweater to provide warmth for Sally's family. As they peered into the cage, they saw
a little flurry of movement behind the tufts of grass. They opened the cage door and gently pushed aside the
grass. There, on a snow-white bed lay nine perfect little rabbit babies, so tiny, they looked like pink mice!
Where did this soft, white bed come from? They hadn't put any cotton wool.
Sally wasn't looking very happy, so they closed the cage door. She came up to the door and Jane was amazed
to see that all her chest fur had gone. As she stared in surprise and wonder, Sally bent down and started
nibbling at the few remaining wisps of fur on her chest.
Now, Jane knew where the snowy bed had come from. It was Sally's fur. She had plucked out her own fur on
a cold January night so that her new-born babies co have a fluffy, warm bed. How cold she must be herself!
Jane carefully wrapped a hot water in a towel and put it under the straw in the cage. This would keep Sally
and her babies warm.
Within a few days her fur started to grow back. The babies opened their eyes after ten days. They had now
turned into cute little balls of white fur. Jane and Tara let them out to run around in the courtyard, and by the
tenth week, they had fully grown.

Q2. Read the passage and answer the following. (1x7=7 Marks)

Most of us enjoy travelling. Going to new places, meeting different people, and experiencing new cultures
widen our horizons and give us a new perspective on life. We get to see how diverse the world really is!

There are many benefits of travelling. The first is gaining experience and learning about the culture of the
city or country we visit. We see the beautiful monuments, forts, palaces, places of worship and museums and
learn about the history of the place. For example, many tourists come to Agra to see the Taj Mahal and Agra
Fort. People also come to Delhi to see monuments such as the Rashtrapati Bhawan, India Gate, Red Fort and
Qutub Minar. They come to know about the different ruling dynasties that charted the course of the city and
its people.

Learning about the traditional customs, festivals, attire, cuisine and mannerisms of the people of a particular
place contributes towards the cultural experience. Those who travel to Japan find that the Japanese are
among the most courteous people in the world.

Countries such as Switzerland, Austria and Mauritius offer scenic landscapes rich in natural beauty while
others like Dubai, New York and London offer wonderful shopping experiences. Egypt, the Land of the
Pharoahs, has the beautiful river Nile and the grand pyramids of Giza and China has the Great Wall.
Travelling opens our eyes to the 'wonders of the world' that we read about only in books.

People who travel frequently also make new friends. If one is in a tour group, one has shared experiences and
this aids in forging bonds of long-term friendship.

Travelling offers a relief from our daily routine. Everyone, whether young or old, needs a holiday.
Sometimes, the preparations for a trip are almost as exciting as the trip itself.
