Assignment - II
Target: 3rd Year (Section 1, 2 &3) Ac. Year/Sem.: 2022/23 - II
Instructors: Mr.Kuba D., Mr. Yeshalem Z., & Dr. Melse W. Max Mark: 5% Sheet metal working & property enhancing and surface processing operations
1. Define the sheet metalworking.
2. List the Advantages of Sheet Metal Parts 3. Discuss Sheet Metalworking Terminology. 4. Explain the Three Major Categories of Sheet Metal Processes. 5. Explain at list seven types of sheet metal operations. 6. Discus the cutting operations. 7. Explain the basic difference between Blanking and Punching. 8. Discuss the Factors affecting shearing operation. 9. Explain a Punch and Die Sizes for Blanking and Punching using a net sketch. 10. Discuss the Allowance in Sheet Metal Cutting, Angular Clearance, and Cutting Forces for punching. 11. A round disk of 150-mm diameter is to be blanked from a strip of 3.2-mm, half-hard cold-rolled steel whose shear strength 310 MPa. Determine (a) the appropriate punch and die diameters, and (b) blanking force. 12. List at list four Other Cutting Operations. 13. Explain bending operation in sheet metalworking. 14. Discuss the types of Sheet-metal Bending. 15. Explain the Bend Allowance, spring back in Bending, and Bending Force on a net sketch. 16. A sheet-metal blank is to be bent as shown in Figure 2.1. The metal has a modulus of elasticity 205 (103) MPa, yield strength 275 MPa, and tensile strength 450 MPa. Determine (a) the starting blank size and (b) the bending force if a V-die is used with a die opening dimension 25 mm.
17. What is drawing in sheet metalworking?
18. Discuss the Clearance, Drawing Ratio DR, Reduction r, Thickness‑to‑Diameter Ratio in drawing of sheet metalworking. 19. A drawing operation is used to form a cylindrical cup with inside diameter 75 mm and height 50 mm. The starting blank size 138 mm and the stock thickness 2.4 mm. Based on these data, is the operation feasible? All so, determine (a) drawing force and (b) holding force, given that the tensile strength of the sheet metal (low-carbon steel) 300 MPa and yield strength 175 MPa. The die corner radius 6 mm.
