INTRODUCTION / BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

There are different Research FORMAT writing the Background and Introduction
but it is important to understand first their used.
 INTRODUCTION “ang panlabas” only gives an overview on your study
and it contains preliminary data about your topic while,
 BACKGROUND -“ang kalooban” discusses the depth about your study.
It also provides context to the information discussed throughout the
research paper.
 While the RRL is “ang kaluluwa” of your research paper.
You need to put information on the Background that will carry “mag bubuhat”
your study/introduction. It must have “Harmony” and arrange in “Chronological
order” (Tamang pagkakasunod-sunod) and “Relevance” (may connection)
from one another.

GENERAL FORMAT of the Chapters and other Considerations:

Start writing Chapter 1, following the given guidelines and format:

1. Discussions are in paragraph form starting from macro to micro

development that gives an overview of the research.

First Paragraph – Discussion of the problem situation as observed and

experienced by the researcher/s at once follows after the chapter title. It may
respond to what the study about and general view.

Second Paragraph - Includes important concepts and ideas related to

the problem from other sources. Cite some relevant past attempts on the same
study and quote from the authors with year, written in open and close
parenthesis (e.g. Tuazon (2018) to establish the need for the study.( It must
start with the foreign information, then followed by national and local.)

Third Paragraph – Includes the legal bases of the study (written in single
space, indented and justified) and the personal justifications of the
researchers.
10

bases

Fourth Paragraph – Write your main objective, importance, (Who

benefits from the study?) and purpose (What need is being responded by the
study?).

2. An active voice is preferable than a passive voice to make your

introduction attractive.
3 . Use the third person in all the discussions, (e.g. the re searchers , t hey ,
t he i r ) .
4. Introduction and Background of the Study should have a maximum of
three (3) pages.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The Statement of the Problem (also known as the Thesis Statement) and
considered as “the heart” of the research clearly states the problem as the main
problem, written either as a declarative statement or as a question, broken down
into specific sub-problems (research questions). It is simply all the questions
pertaining to finding results of the proposed topic or problem can be found
The general purpose and specific questions to be answered should be stated.
This provides the direction of the research undertaking.

1. The section should have an introductory statement. (see example below)

2. It should enlist at least three (3) specific questions to be answered by
the researchers as enumerated below - (sample SOP for Qualitative

Hypothesis of the Study (Intended for PR2 only)

1. The section should have an introductory statement. (See sample

below).
2. It should enlist the hypotheses tested in the research. Hypothesis is
stated in null hypotheses.
Hypothesis
is based on the SOP

Relationship, difference…

Assumption/s of the Study

- Assumptions are things that the researcher assumes to be true;
statements that are taken for granted or are considered true, even though
they have not been scientifically tested.
- Assumptions are principles those are accepted as being true based on
logic or reasons, but without proof or verification.
You may see the level of acceptability.

Difference between ASSUMPTION and HYPOTHESIS

ASSUMPTION HYPOTHESIS
-Are basically beliefs and ideas that we - it is a prediction;
hold to be true;
- Often with little or no evidence and are - can be statistically tested and may be
not statistically tested in research; accepted or rejected;
- Beliefs about the variables; and - Predictions about the relationship of two
or more variables; and
-Based on the beliefs, the researchers - Predict a relation between variables and
attempt to discover the correlation statistically tested to conclude the study.
Conceptual Framework

1. This framework is the researcher’s own conceptualization of the

research using the model.
13

2. The conceptual model is a figurative representation of the research

framework drawn in separate whole page in the middle of its
discussion.
3. In the discussion, the researcher describes and explains the model, the
meaning of the figures, the contents and the processes involved.
4. All the variables involved should be written in the model.
5. Ending by word Figure 1, followed by the term – Conceptual Model

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The Scope of the Study refers to how far the research area has explored. It
defines where and when the study was conducted and who the Subject was. This
also includes the variables or factors involved in the study.
A limitation is a phase or aspect of the investigation which may affect
adversely but over which the researcher has no control. In other words, the
limitations of the study give the accepted shortcomings of the study.
On the other hand, delimitation refers to the boundaries or areas where
the results of the study cannot be applied. It describes the boundaries that you
have set for the study. Physical limitations necessarily delimit the scope of the
study

This section discusses the parameters of the research in paragraph. It

answers the basic questions:
1. WHAT - The topic of investigation and the variables included
2. WHERE - The venue or the setting of the research4
3. WHEN - The time frame by which the study was conducted
4. WHY - The general objectives of the research.
5. WHO - The subject of the study, the population and the
sampling
6. HOW - The methodology of the research which may include the
Research Design, Methodology, and Research
Instrument.

Significance of the Study

16

The significance of the study should be justified in this section. The

impact of the results of the study that will be benefited by the study should
be mentioned. Its value to the available research literature should also be
stated. It describes on how important is the study.
Example of Significance of the Study (the word Teachers, Students and
Future Researchers will be written followed by a period (.), bold and
indented.)
Sample only
The study will be beneficial to the following:
Teachers. The study will be helpful to the teachers to upgrade and
improve themselves. Then, the outcome of the study will serve as their basis for them to be
aware of their strengths and weaknesses.
Students. The study will be a beneficial to students since they will be handled by
teachers who are aware of what it takes to be professional teacher, one who is responsible,
committed and knowledgeable who will guide them to be good citizens of the country.
Future Researchers. The study will motivate them to seek for deeper perspective of
the problem that may lead to other researchable problems in the area. Then, this study may
serve as a valuable source of data while conducting their studies.
This may also use in the

Definition of Terms

It is a very brief section consisting of a series of definitions of the key terms or

concepts found in the proposal.
-Since some words like "recreation" or "leisure" may have various meanings, it is
important to clarify to the reader the way they are used in the proposal.
-Unfamiliar or technical words may also require an exact definition. But it is
imperative to define the word from the TITLE, SOP operationally based on how it
was used in the study.
1. The section should have an introductory statement.
2. Important terms from the title or variables are enlisted and arranged on
alphabetical order, written in bold letters (First letter of the word is
capitalized) followed by a period (.) before the meaning.
3. Each variable is given a definition written immediately after each term in
sentence form and on hanging indentions. Retain operational definitions
when necessary.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

The section provides related study and literature about past researchers
related to the intended study which you may relate your own findings and
conclusions.
1. Related Literature and studies should be ten (10) years back of the current
year.
2. Related studies are presented, thematized in such a way the Statement of
the Problem (SOP) was arranged.
3. Include ALL the Review of Related Literature in the bibliography entry, all
the author(s) / sources used using APA format.
4. Family name of the author/s is place together with the year (with open and
close parenthesis) (e.g. Sulit (2018) ) in every entry of the paragraph of
related literature.
5. Minimum of three (3) Related Studies and Literature, and minimum of five
(5) pages is expected. Regardless if it is Local or Foreign.
6. Whatever Review mentioned here can be used in Chapter 4.
7. Please see sample below.

Steps in conducting a Literature Review

1. The researcher must choose a topic. The purpose of conducting a
literature review is to convey to the readers the extent to which knowledge
and ideas have been established on a topic.
21

2. Identify databases and resources related to the chosen topic.

3. Search and refine the materials. The researcher is also guided in
identifying useful journal articles and other reference materials.
4. Read and Analyze the articles. The researcher may use guided questions
5. Writing the Review. Literature review is an example of discursive prose,
not a list describing or summarizing one piece of literature after another.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to develop and validate multimedia instructional

materials as innovative teaching strategy for Grade 7 of Angono National High

School, Angono, Rizal, School Year 2017 – 2018.

The multimedia instructional materials were developed and validated

based on the performance of the Grade 7 students on the results in the Division

Achievement Test (DAT) Academic Year 2016-2017, focusing on the least

mastered learning competencies in Reading Comprehension.

The subject - participants used in the study were the thirty (30) Grade 7

Charm, as experimental group; and thirty (30) Grade 7 Hope, as control group.

In particular, the study utilized the descriptive, experimental methods of

research and adapted questionnaire - checklists considering Content;

Objectives; Organization and Presentation; and Language and Style.

The different multimedia instructional materials used were: Powtoon was

used to discuss Proverbs, and Library Lesson. The study revealed that the

experimental group showed a remarkable improvement, and those who were

not exposed to a similar intervention did not show impressive improvements.

To determine the level of acceptability of the materials, English experts

were purposively chosen as evaluators of the multimedia instructional

materials. The study revealed that the said materials were Very Much

Acceptable (VMA).

Over-all, the performance of both the experimental and control group

differed significantly.
