Introduction to Networking Assignment APD1F2209CS

1.0 Introduction
Many large organisations pick VanTech as their chosen technology partner since it provides solutions,
enhances the security of their websites, and provides a wide range of other essential services. VanTech
has offices in Kuala Lumpur and Cyberjaya in Malaysia. By the middle of 2023, just two Vantech
departments—technical and development—will move to Cyberjaya; all other departments will stay in
Kuala Lumpur. VanTech also emphasises employee values and fosters an environment where staff
members can develop their ideas, exercise critical thinking, and innovate.

1.1 Objectives
In order for us to create a suitable network diagram for this organisation, this assignment's goal is to
give us the necessary tools. Additionally, for this project, we must ascertain the demand and do
research in order to produce an appropriate topology diagram that contains the IP addressing scheme
and network devices necessary to make it function using the foundations of wireless networks.
1.2 Assumptions
The second floor of Cyberjaya has a balcony, a meeting room, a server room, a development hub, and
a pantry. There are ten employees who utilise computers throughout the entire building. In the learning
centre for developers, there are 8 PCs available for use by employees. Furthermore, there are 2 PCs in
the technical assistants room that are used to keep an eye on the server room. Additionally, there are
TVs and speakers in the conference room and meeting room so that employees can present
powerpoints during meetings.

2.0 Floor Plan Layout and Justification

2.1 CONFERENCE ROOM

The Cyberjaya's second level has conference rooms. A conference room is a medium-sized space used for board
meetings, management discussions, and other significant decision-making circumstances
2.2 DEVELOPMENT HUB
On the second floor of Cyberjaya, there is also a development hub. The growth of existing skills and
competences among staff members as well as the acquisition of new ones support the organization's goals.
2.3 SERVER ROOM
There is a server room next to the balcony. Server rooms are secure spaces where companies may centrally
manage all of their network server resources.
2.4 TECHNICAL ASSISTANT ROOM
The Technical Assistance Room was constructed to keep an eye on the network and ensure that all servers are
operating properly.
2.5 MEETING ROOM
Additionally, there are meeting rooms on the second floor of Cyberjaya where employees can meet informally
to discuss a project rather than doing so in open. A recruitment interview might be held in a meeting room as
well.
2.6 PANTRY

4|Page

The pantry is located in the office's upper corner. Instead of leaving their office to take their lunch break,
employees can enjoy their meals and tea breaks in the pantry.
2.7 BALCONY
Employee can go to the balcony by going in to the pantry. There are two eating tables that are available on the
balcony allow the employees to sit outside in the fresh air and enjoy their meals

3.0 Network Diagram Layout and Justification

Figure above shows network diagram in Cyber Jaya 2nd floor

3.1 Network Diagram Justification
On this floor, there are 4 switches and 1 router in use. Ring topology is therefore utilised in this
network design. Ring topology is used to prevent data collisions and transfer data fast. (ECSTUFFU
for electronics engineer, 2018). In this network diagram, switches designated as 2960 switches are in
use. The primary switch (switch 1) in the server room is connected to the router via a copper straight-
through connection. The development hub, conference room, and pantry all have three sub switches
connected to the main switch. Three servers, one HVAC unit, one CCTV, and RFID are all connected
to the server room's main switch. It has a copper straight-through connection to the end devices in the
technical assistance room.

3.2 Devices Justification

DEVICES JUSTIFICATION
SERVER Server is a type of computer that shares
information with other computers. A server
is essential to a business because it enables
the quick setup of new devices, the addition
of new users, and the launch of new
applications. Clients may view you as more
professional as a result of its support in
managing websites. (Saxton, 2011)

WIRELESS ACCESS POINT A hardware component or installed LAN

node known as a wireless access point
(WAP) enables Bluetooth or Wi-Fi
communication between wired networks
and wirelessly capable devices. The wireless
access point's extensive broadcast range
enables more users to connect to a wifi
network while maintaining a superior
signal. (Gordon, 2022)
ROUTER Router is a device that send and receive data
between networks. Router is usually used in
company to connect laptop, smartphone,
smart TV, and other gadgets to your home
WiFi with its help. A router is crucial
because it enables flexible cross-network
connectivity and enables larger networks to
continue operating even during redesigns or
outages. (What Is a Router? | Router
Definition, 2022)
DESKTOP COMPUTER A desktop computer is a particular kind of
laptop intended for desk use. Both large
mainframe computers, which are not
intended for desk-based use, and portable
computers, such laptops, which are made to
be easily moved from one location to
another, conflict with this. Because they are
more powerful than laptops and can perform
more memory-intensive applications,
desktop computers are used in businesses.
Additionally, it costs less than laptops.

PRINTER A printer, an external hardware output

device, turns digital data stored on a
computer or another device into a hard
copy. Important documents are produced
utilising a printer in the office, including
accounting records, employee information,
and business policies.

CCTV The usage of CCTV makes the workplace

safer by discouraging employees from
committing such crimes. It can also prevent
the theft of tangible goods and intellectual
property. (Elite Security, 2021)

RFID READER RFID is used to restrict access to the room

to just authorised employees. Since RFID
key cards are far more difficult to copy than
regular keys, they provide security against
unauthorised users. (emc, 2022)

4.0 Conclusion
The goal outlined in the beginning is accomplished, to sum up. With the assumptions outlined in the
introduction, we were able to produce a suitable network diagram and floor plan for the organisation.
Using the fundamental knowledge of wireless networks, we are able to identify a topology that is
appropriate for this network diagram, which shows network devices and an IP address. To make it
easier for the staff to carry out their duties at the organisation, all appropriate IoT devices are also
utilised in this network diagram.
