    EXPERINCE ON OPEN AND DISTANCE LEARNING (ODL)

    First of all I would like to introduce myself , my name is Dania Mardhiah Binti Ismail. Born
    and raised in Butterworth , Penang. Today I’ll be sharing my experince on open and distance
    learning or ODL for short . I am a first semester student at uITM Campus Alor Gajah,
    Melaka .Getting into university and wanting to experince the university student life have
    always been a dream of mine . But all of that have to be put on hold for a while because
    something unexpected happened before I get a chance to be at the campus which is Corona
    Virus . Having to start my first online class at home was not the ideal university student life I
    have always expected. But with the hectic situation going around with the virus, I must say it
    is quite convenience for me to stay at home .

    There are few reasons to why im drawn to an open and distance learning . Firstly, it allows
    me to remain at home with my family . It also helps saving the money , saving time and most
    of all the convenience . The classes also offer more to a one-on-one teacher -student
    relationship rather than a teacher having to spread their focus among other students .
    I’ve also learned that to be a successful distance learner , I have to be self-disciplined and
    able to workk well on my own . Since I don’t get the chance to physically going to class
    everyweek.I must take part in class from the comfort of my own home. Self-diciplined is very
    important because the lecturers won’t constantly be there to remind me of assignments
    deadlines . I’m also able to communicate with the lectures and other students that are
    taking these courses as well, it has made me be a more active participant during the classes .
    In my experince, I have never felt it difficult to communicate with the lecturers and other
    students to ask for help or clarification of an assignment . They have always been really
    helpful to me throughout this ODL .

    However, the only downfall with ODL is not every students are provided with the strong
    internet connection that online courses require . It is a difficult situation for a students
    because we have to submit those assignments online , attending classes and taking tests as
    well. Time management also is another issue with ODL as online classes requires lot of time
    and intensive work. Being at home , there are other everyday commitments that make it
    hard for students to attend the classes . lastly, self motivation. This is an essential
    requirement for ODL. However, ive noticed ive become less motivated throught out my
    online classes experince . After enrolling in distance learning classes, I tend to fall behind
    whenever I have learning difficulty in some courses ive taken. It is quite a struggle for me to
    overcome those obstacles on my own .

    Finally, ODL have been a huge struggle for me but the good also far outweigh the bad based
    on my experince .I believe that it is not just me that have to go through those struggles as
    there are many other students can relate with situation im currently in. However , we must
    take this as an new experince for us and try hard to overcome those difficulties. I guess
    that’s all I have to share as for my experince with ODL thank you .
