TOPIC
A study into the impact of how Covid-19 protocols and restrictions affected Tasty Treats Bakery.
OBJECTIVES
1. To identify the different Covid-19 protocols used at Tasty Treats bakery
2. To outline the strategies used at Tasty Treats bakery to overcome the Covid-19
restrictions
3. To determine if the Covid-19 protocols and restrictions affected the sales at
Tasty Treats bakery
BACKGROUND
HISTORY
The name of the business that my group is doing is called Tasty Treats Bakery. It is located at
#29 Macaulay Road Claxton Bay. In this business there is the Owner are 10 employees, 4 bakers,
2 packers, 2 cashiers and 2 delivery drivers. They sell cookies, doughnuts, Ice cream, cakes,
chicken pies and much more. It is a sole trader business. The business was established on July
14th, 2002.

DESCRIPTION OF DEVELOPMENT
Covid-19 had a worldwide impact. The entire world was and continue to be affected by the
deadly virus from school closure to devastated industries and millions of jobs lost. According to
Harvard Business review article by Mr. Bartik, A Way Forward for Small Businesses, it stated
that most small businesses are extremely cash strapped. The vast majority of small businesses
had less than two months of cash on hand to deal with shocks. The median business with
monthly expenses over $10,000 generally didn’t even have enough cash to cover two weeks of
their spending. These results suggest that without a credit lifeline or cash infusion, businesses
will have to either cut their spending drastically or fold.( April 13th, 2020, Alexander W. Bartik,)
One of the main strategies that businesses could use to overcome the effects of the pandemic that
stood out to us from Mr. Thackeray article, 7 ways businesses can respond to the coronavirus,
was Stay “close “ to customers. Businesses will need to make a concerted effort to keep
customers engaged and reassured in the short term. Inventory planning, discounts and special
offers will all help to incentivize current customers. For longer-term stability, firms should start
assessing and targeting other market segments and identify opportunities for growth.(March 18th ,
2020, Darren Thackery)

IMPACT ON STUDENT
Covid-19 had a serious impact on us as students. The various restrictions and protocols have kept
us back in many ways. It had a serious impact on our mental health. We had to cope with new
methods of learning, asynchronous and synchronous which were done online. We found it very
difficult to follow the various protocols such as social distancing, wearing face masks and
sanitizing in the public and at school.

IMPACT ON SOCIETY
My group can share the information that we found from our research with fellow classmates and
businesses in our respective community, to better educate and make them more knowledgeable
about Covid-19 protocols and strategies they can use to successfully run their business during the
pandemic.
METHODOLOGY

DATA COLLECTION INSTRUMENT

The data collection instruments that were used were interviews and questionnaires. The
interviews consisted of 6 questions and the questionnaire contained 10 questions. In both
instruments there were a mixture of qualitative and quantitative questions.
.
.
METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION CLEARLY DESCRIBED

The questionnaires were given out face to face to employees on Saturday the 7th of January 2023
and the interviews were conducted with the business owner on the same date.

METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION JUSTIFIED

My group and I chose these instruments because it was the quickest and most efficient way to
collect data

LIMITATIONS OF DATA COLLECTION

The main limitation our group had was organizing the date and appointment needed to collect
our data with the business owner. Most times when we were free the business owner had no
time. The entire data collection exercise were very time consuming.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion Tasty treats were adversely affected by Covid-19 protocols and restrictions. It had
lowered the number of customers coming into the bakery and it had an impact also on the sales.
Lower customers equals lower sales thus lower profits in the business. However we found out
that they overcome these challenges by allowing customers to order online and curbside pickup.
RECOMMENDATION

In recommendation Tasty treats can have sale promotions such as buy one get one free so that
they can increase and maintain their customers. We also recommend that they do house
delivery in order to reach the customers faster and boost sales thus increasing profits.
