    Ketones can be oxidized by potassium permanganate or dichromate in dilute sulfuric acid to form carboxylic acids. They can also be reduced by sodium borohydride in water or lithium aluminum hydride in ether to form alcohols. Ketones undergo nucleophilic addition reactions with hydrocyanic acid, hydrogen iodide, or sodium iodide to form cyanohydrins, iodoalkanes, or iodoalcohols respectively.
