    DISEASES OF THE FIVE SENSES

    I. SIGHT:
    1,Blindness/Visual Impairment

    *Blindness is a general term to describe a general lack of vision. It


    may also refer to a loss of vision that cannot be corrected with
    glasses or contact lenses.

    2.A cataract is a clouding area over the front part of the eye - an


    area that is normally transparent. It can affect either one eye or
    both eyes. The center of a eye might look cloudy or white, or
    like someone poured milk into the eye, or might complain of
    feeling something scratchy in their eye. Cataracts can be so
    small that they do no impact vision at all, or they can be quite
    large and lead to loss of vision.

    3.Glaucoma is a condition in which the normal fluid pressure inside


    the eyes slowly rises as a result of the fluid  - which normally flows
    in and out of the eye - not being able to drain properly. Instead, the
    fluid collects and causes pressure damage to the optic nerve and
    loss of vision. Glaucoma may affect just one eye or both
    4.Nystagmus is any form of involuntary, rhythmic eye movement. It
    may occur in horizontal, vertical, or semicircular paths. Nystagmus
    usually involves both eyes and is often exaggerated by looking in a
    particular direction.

    II HEARING

    *Deafness, hearing impairment, or hearing loss is a partial or total inability


    to hear. The severity of the hearing impairment is determined by the level
    of decibels a person can respond to. It may be ranked as mild, moderate,
    moderately severe, severe or profound.

    *Ear infections are the most common illness in infants and young children.
    *Tinnitus, a roaring in your ears, can be the result of loud noises, medicines or a
    variety of other causes.
    *Meniere's disease may be the result of fluid problems in your inner ear; its
    symptoms include tinnitus and dizziness.

    III TOUCH

    Hypoesthesia or numbness is a common side effect of various medical conditions which


    manifests as a reduced sense of touch or sensation, or a partial loss of sensitivity to sensory
    stimuli.
    Hypoesthesia primarily results from damage to nerves, and from blockages in blood vessels,
    resulting in ischemic damage to tissues supplied by the blocked blood vessels. This damage is
    detectable through the use of various imaging studies. Damage in this way is caused by a
    variety of different illnesses and diseases.

    IV.TASTE:

    Ageusia. Loss of sense of taste


    Hypogeusia. Reduced ability to taste sweet, sour, bitter, or salty things.

    V.SMELL
     Anosmia. Loss of sense of smell. Nasal congestion from a cold, allergy, sinus
    infection, or poor air quality is the most common cause of anosmia.
     Hyposmia. Reduced ability to smell.
