OBJECTIVES

❖The main aim is to provide home or office

security using PIR sensor and alerting using
GSM

Dept of EEE Mini Project-BatchNo:05 2

INTRODUCTION

• In our day-to-day life crime is increasing rapidly, so one of the

important things is the security of our home, office, and shop
from thieves/burglars.
• In this project tutorial, we will be going to design a Home
Security System using PIR sensor and GSM module which
detects intruders and informs the owner.
• This system/device detects thieves/burglars when they try to
enter the house and informs the owner by sending text
messages on her/his phone.

Specification
Components Range Description
PIR sensor (0 to 20 )meter An electronic sensor
that measures infrared
(IR) light radiating
from objects in its
field of view.
SIM800L GSM module (0 to 35 kilometers) SIM800L is a
Approx. (22 mi) miniature cellular
Voltage range module which allows
(4.4)volts for GPRS transmission,
sending and receiving
SMS and making and
receiving voice calls.

Specification
Components Range Description
Arduino-NANO Input voltage The Arduino Nano is a
(9 volts) small, complete, and
breadboard-friendly
board based on the
ATmega328 (Arduino
Nano 3.x). It works
by a DC power
supply.
LED 5 volt A Light Emitting
Diode (LED) is a
semiconductor
device, which can
emit light when an
electric current
passes through it.

Specification
Components Range Description
Buzzer ( 1to 7kHz) frequency A buzzer or beeper is
an audio signaling
device, which may be
mechanical,
electromechanical, or
piezoelectric

Resistor 220 ohm A resistor is a passive

two-terminal electrical
component that
implements electrical
resistance as a circuit
element.

Working
When someone comes in the detection range of the PIR Motion
Sensor, then it detects motion and produces a High (5v)
output signal from its output pin. The Arduino reads this high
output signal and it realizes someone has come in front of the
sensor. Now, the Arduino communicates with the SIM800L
GSM module via serial communication to send Text Messages
to the owner’s mobile number. The mobile number has pre-
programmed in code, you can change it in code. At the same
time, the Red LED and buzzer also turn on, these warn the
owner that someone (thieves/burglars) has come in front of
the Door (Sensor).
