Castilla y Leon
Epson offered the ideal solution by customising its PLQ-20 passbook
printer to handle thicker passbooks.

With a customisation of the PLQ-20, Epson offered the schools of Junta de Castilla in
Spain, a perfect solution which enabled them to print directly on the surface of the
students’ passbooks, improving efficiency.

Previously the schools of Junta de Castilla had been printing individual labels to enter
academic records, and gluing them into students’ passbooks.

As these printed labels were easy to forge or tamper with, the autonomous communities
decided it would be preferable to print directly onto the pages of the passbooks. At the
same time, the communities wanted to introduce thicker passbooks with more pages,
so that a single book would last through primary and secondary school.

By utilising Epson’s PLQ-20 passbook printers, gained the schools of Junta de Castilla
the flexibility to print passbooks of up to 46 pages plus the cover. Furthermore, the
solution delivers high-quality, long-lasting prints which reduce the scope for counterfeit
passbook entries.

Junta de Castilla is delighted with Epson’s solution and has made an initial purchase
of 1,000 PLQ-20 printers.

Local Police of the Municipality of Bucharest
Police officers in Bucharest can now issue fines for traffic and public
order offences instantly using Epson’s LQ-50 matrix printer.

Epson has provided the local police in the municipality of Bucharest, Romania with 25 of its
LQ-50 matrix printers. The project, in collaboration with Interactive Systems and Business
Consulting, lessens both the waiting time for the offender and time spent by officers writing
reports by hand.

We received an LQ-50 printer from Epson to test and see whether we could adapt it to the
requirements of the Local Police,” says Gabriel Dorneanu at Epson reseller, Interactive
Systems and Business Consulting. “That helped us a great deal as we were able to come
to a solution that suited us perfectly.”

“The representatives of the Local Police of the Municipality of Bucharest required a printer
that was small, sufficiently compact, and rigid enough to withstand the shocks that occur
when driving a car. It also had to print on carbonless paper with three layers. We looked it
up on the internet and got in contact with Epson,” adds Dorneanu.

As well as being adapted to be used in the boots of police cars, the 25 LQ-50 printers were
modified to work with an all-in-one computer and a software program for editing offence
reports. The flexibility of the Epson units meant that it was easy to change power supply so
that they could be used at a voltage of 12V.
