Yesterday class 6C visited Stratford-upon-Avon, the town where William Shakespeare was
born.
I was very excited about my school trip. I packed my lunch early in the morning and I walked to
school. I arrived early. My schoolmates weren’t there. When the bus arrived, I was the first to
get on. The journey was good. We watched a good film on the bus TV. In Stratford, we visited
Shakespeare’s house. His home is called “The birthplace” and is the same as in his day. There’s
a museum on the second floor. Then we walked along Bridge Street and looked into the shops.
There are a lot of shops there. Some people visit Stratford just to do shopping. We finally
arrived at Holy Trinity Church, where Shakespeare is buried. The church is near the river Avon.
There’s a theatre and a restaurant on its banks. We wanted to see the Avon because it is
beautiful. We decided to take a guided boat ride. It was fun! I loved my visit.
With the help of UNICEF and of the programme Schools for Africa, Rosalia has a school now.
The roof and walls are repaired. Now, Rosalia and her schoolmates – 959 boys and 975 girls –
can attend school all year round, even during the rainy season. Rosalia attends grade 4 at
Primary School 103 in São João, Huembo, Angola. Rosalia goes to school each morning until
12:30, and then she spends the afternoon caring for her extended family. She cooks, cleans,
feeds the younger children and sells flowers with her sister to earn some extra money. She
doesn’t have a father. Her brother-in-law’s job as a stone cutter brings in some money, but not
enough to feed the family. Rosalia studies hard. She loves school and she wants to become a
teacher. She doesn’t have any books of her own. She has to copy the lessons from classmates.
SIMON’S WEEKEND
At the weekend Simon and his sister don’t go to school, so they usually sleep till late in the
morning. When they wake up, they have a quick shower and then they have a big breakfast
because they have time to prepare it. They usually eat bacon and eggs, two slices of toast, a
piece of fruit and drink a glass of orange juice.
After breakfast they often go for a walk in the park or they go skateboarding. When they arrive
home, they have lunch with their parents.
On Saturday afternoon they sometimes go shopping with their mother, visit their grandparents
or go to the cinema. They love cartoons and action films. Their favourite actor is Jim Carrey.
Today they are very busy. They are organizing their mother’s birthday part. Linda and grandma
are making a cake in the kitchen; Simon is hanging some balloons; his father and grandpa are
preparing a barbecue. The dog is sleeping in the garden. Everything must be perfect!
I’m thirteen years old and I attend a very big school near London. My favourite subjects are
Science and Physical Education. I’m very good at sports. I play volleyball at my school. I have a
busy life. I always get up at half past seven. I have a shower, get dressed and at eight o’clock I
go to school by car with my mother. My classes start at half past eight. On Mondays I have
lunch at school with my friends. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I practice volleyball at the school’s
gym. Wednesday is my favourite day of the week because I have dance classes and sometimes
I have dinner with my father. My parents are divorced. I live with my mother and at the
weekends I always go to my father’s house. On Saturdays I go for a walk with my dog Nikita.
After having lunch with my father, I go to the cinema with some friends. At 4:40 pm I go home
and listen to music in my bedroom. I love music. At 9:45 I go to bed. I never go to bed late.
My Summer Holiday
I’m Tony Flynn. And I’m going to tell you about my last summer holiday. I had a great time. My
grandparents bought the plane tickets and my brother and I went to New York with them. It
was our first holiday abroad.
My parents stayed in London because my father is an architect and he had to finish a big
project. They only went to the seaside at the weekend. We stayed in New York for three
weeks. We didn’t stay in a hotel because my grandparents’ best friend Sylvia has got a house in
New York so we stayed there.
New York is a great city! We admired very high buildings like the Empire State Building, famous
monuments like the Statue of Liberty and we took pictures in Central Park! We also saw a very
popular musical Mamma Mia! It was absolutely fantastic! The weather in New York was better
than in England. It was sunny and hot.
My brother and I are going to organise our pictures and then we’re going to show them to my
parents.
Hi, my name is Paco and I’m from Bogatá in Colombia. I’m eleven years old and I go to San
Cristóbat Secondary School. Bogatá is the capital of Colombia, and over 7 million people live
there. Colombia has a population of 47 million. We speak Spanish here.
I get up at 5.30 in the morning and have a shower. Then I have breakfast with my family. I’ve
got one brother and one sister. My brother is sixteen and he goes to the same school as me.
My sister is nineteen. School starts at 7.30, so I leave my house at 6.30. I always walk to school.
We study in the morning and break time is at 9.30. I love break times! I usually play football
with my friends then. I don’t have lunch at school because school finishes at 11.30. That’s
when I go to the park with my friends to play football again! My mum comes to the park and
walks home with me. We have lunch at one o’clock at home. I love Colombian food – my mum
cooks really good arepas – corn bread. We eat them with soup or meat. We have mango juice
too – my favourite! What do you do on schooldays? Please tell me.
