Assignment - 04

This document is a student's assignment submission for their Computer Networks course. It includes instructions for the assignment and two questions - the first asks the student's opinion on whether the world will fully transition to IPv6 or remain mixed with IPv4, and to discuss IPv6 allocation in Pakistan. The second question involves classless subnetting of a sample network address.

Question No. 1

Telecommunication and more generally network communication made huge progress in the past
hundred years. The data communications protocol supporting the Internet (IPv4) is almost 40
years old, and its 32-bit address space is too small for the global Internet. Internet Protocol
Version 6 (IPv6) is a version of the Internet Protocol that is designed to succeed Internet Protocol
version 4 (IPv4), the first publicly used Internet Protocol, which is still in dominant use
currently.

IPv6 is an Internet Layer protocol for packet-switched internetworks. But the new protocol is not
backward compatible with the existing Internet. For the past 20 years, the Internet technical
community has been trying to transfer the entire Internet to the new standard.

1- What do you think, Will the world converge on IPv6? Or will we live in a
mixed world of IPv4 and IPv6? Justify your answer

2- Highlights the status of IPv6 allocation in Pakistan.

Question No. 2
Classless Subnetting

Given the following:

Network address: 192.168.10.0/15

1. Calculate the number of host bits?

2. Calculate the number of Network bits?
3. What are the valid subnets?
4. Write the subnet range.
5. Broadcast address
6. Valid host range.
7. Calculate the subnet mask.
8. Complete calculation of 10th host address.

Now you have to create 5 different networks from the above IP. Show the
complete calculation of how you will borrow the bits from the host part.

Show the calculation of at least 2 new network addresses.
