A. Rationale
Clitoria ternatea, commonly known as butterfly pea, is a perennial herbaceous plant from the
Fabaceae family. It has recently attracted a lot of interest as it has potential applications both in
modern medicine and agriculture, and as a source of natural food colorants and antioxidants. C.
ternatea has long been cultivated as a forage and fodder crop, and early studies assessed the
plant for these purposes (Reid and Sinclair, n.d.; Barro and Ribeiro, n.d.; Hall, n.d.). Numerous
field trials in Queensland, Australia, eventually led to the registry of C. ternatea cv. 'Milgarra'
(Oram, n.d.), the only cultivar in Australia that was released for grazing purposes (Conway and
Doughton, 2005). Additionally, C. ternatea has been widely used in traditional medicine,
particularly as a supplement to enhance cognitive functions and alleviate symptoms of
numerous ailments including fever, inflammation, pain, and diabetes (Mukherjee et al.,
2008).dy.
In this research, I want to achieve the lessen of buying herbal teas that are expensive, I also
want to make this plant more known as a medicinal plant as a tea that is as effective as the
store-bought teas. A lot of people nowadays are going for the more expensive herbal teas
because it is more “effective”, which it isn’t true because cheaper one is also effective as the
more expensive ones.
To lessen of buying herbal teas from stores, I want to make a tea that has more benefits than
other ones, in order to make this tea I search for a flower that isn’t that much used, which is the
butterfly pea. This research targets to persuade people to not buy more herbal teas at store,
instead they can make it in their own households and to make a tea that has a lot of benefits in
it. To achieve this, I, the researcher will study more about the plant itself and try to make it into
a tea.

The two main objectives of this study is to produce a herbal tea that is very
beneficial to our body and cheaper option of drinking teas.
E. Significance Of The Study
This research is great of significance in the field of medicine, because butterfly pea is
rich in antioxidants and may be linked to several health benefits, including increased
weight loss, better blood sugar control, and improvements in hair and skin health. In
addition, this will help certain groups and organizations such as students and young
people that wants to keep their body healthy because this can boost your brain
activities and it can help a lot on our body improvement.

Review of Related Literature(RRL)
Clitoria ternatea, the butterfly pea is a plant native to Asia. You may recognize it by its
striking, vibrant blue flowers. Butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea) is a multi-purpose forage
legume. It provides bioactive compounds for medicinal use and it is also an ornamental
plant and cover crop. It is adaptable to a wide range of temperature, rainfall and altitude.
Butterfly pea, a highly palatable forage legume is generally preferred by livestock over
other legumes. It has thin stem and large leaves, nil bloat and non toxic which make it
ideal for forage and hay making(According to S Michael Gomez, A Kalamani). This plant
is very beneficial to a human body.
The popular use of Clitoria ternatea in traditional medicine has stimulated researchers
to elucidate the pharmacological activities of extracts obtained from various C. ternatea
tissues. Numerous animal studies have reported that the extracts exhibit diuretic,
nootropic, antiasthmatic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, antidiabetic,
antilipidemic, anti-arthritic, antioxidant, and wound healing properties. Although these
combined studies claim that C. ternatea extracts showcase a diverse range of
pharmacological properties, many of these studies are preliminary and require more
thorough investigation. In many instances the authors have attributed the extract
activities to the presence of flavonols and anthocyanins, however, attempts to isolate
and test individual components are limited. Indeed several components in C. ternatea
extracts could be acting synergistically. For instance, cyclotides which have been
reported to have immunosuppressive properties may contribute (Gründemann et al.,
2012, 2013; Thell et al., 2016), as could the abundance of delphinidins (Sogo et al.,
2015; Tani et al., 2017; Harada et al., 2018). It can relieve stress and lower symptoms
and anxiety disorder. This plant can also be used as a dye for paints, it produces 3
colors which is blue(original color), purple(when ph level is lowered), green(when ph
level is higher). Clitoria ternatea roots produce large round nodules (Cobley, n.d.)known
to house nitrogen-fixing bacteria, making the plant ideal for use in a crop rotation
system.
Turning butterfly pea into a herbal tea is one of the way to consume it. Rather than
buying an expensive tea from the store, make it yourself. According to my study
butterfly tea(Clitoria ternatee) is one of the most beneficial plant that you can find just in
the wild. Consuming this may help you with your body’s helath and pay less to have a
effective herbal tea.
Chapter 3
Methodology
Materials and equipment for Butterfly pea tea
The material that is used in this research study were enough amount of dried butterfly
pea, hot/warm water, glass, strainer, and a winnowing basket.
Procedures:
A. Drying the Butterfly pea
Fill the winnowing basket with a (500g) of butterfly pea. Leave it in the sun for
few days for it to dry(or you can use dehydrating machines if you want it to dry
faster).
B. Making the Butterfly pea into a tea
Fill your glass with the butterfly pea that you dried, then put some warm/hot water
on the glass, after it shows the extract strain the tea to separate the flower. You
can serve it with ice or you can drink the tea as it is(for added flavor, you can add
lemon/calamansi to it and it will also change the color due to low ph level).
