Project 1 Refelctions
What did you do and/or learn that you applaud yourself for or are delighted about for
Project 1? (Learned more about yourself? Honored your voice? Got ideas for Projects 2
and 3? Decided to follow your passion in Projects 2 and 3? Learned how research is
very doable, just takes time and patience? Learned how research also finds you in our
burgeoning technological era? Learned not to snatch bogus quotes off the web?
Learned how valuable librarians are? Learned how Cal is rich in libraries and you have
the keys to all? etc.)
a. Through Project 1, I realized that I have a personality apart from the products I
buy and that I am more than simply my demographic. I performed research on
the origins and intricacies of digital humor and discovered methods of fostering
this rapidly expanding culture. I found that some of my biggest cognitive biases
are a result of exposure to internet media and the growth of social media
platforms. I also understood that eliminating false information can aid in
lessening societal bias. I also heard about the term "chronically online," which
characterizes people whose political, social, and economic opinions are based
primarily on social media. This word highlights how lacking in real-world
experience, those who identify as "chronically online" may find it difficult to
effectively talk about issues like politics or social justice. Overall, I am delighted
that I was able to deeply dive into myself and engage in research that allowed
me to learn more about the world around me.
2. What did you not do for Project 1 that you want to up your game on for Projects 2 and 3?
(More time spent in research? More time getting to know databases well? Let go of
perfectionism? Meet with a librarian? Meet with Carmen? Visit the library in person? etc.)
a. I didn't spend as much time on research for Project 1 as I would have liked to, so
for Projects 2 and 3, I'm definitely going to step it up. I'll be investing more time
researching pertinent literature and data sources since I believe it's crucial to
have a strong research foundation from which to build. To comprehend specific
concepts or data sets better, I might also think about consulting a librarian or
subject-matter expert. Finally, I want to relax a little bit about being flawless and
concentrate more on delivering high-quality work quickly rather than getting
bogged down in small details that might not ultimately matter in the big picture.
