DLP-6 Week 2 (PART 2)

The document outlines a lesson plan for a physics class that discusses projectile motion and equations for uniformly accelerated motion in the vertical dimension. It includes objectives, topics, activities, sample problems and an assignment for students to practice equations for objects dropped or thrown vertically. The lesson aims to help students understand and solve problems involving vertical motion under constant acceleration due to gravity.

Elicit (5 mins)
Review of the past lesson
Yesterday, we discussed the equations of UAM and solve problems regarding horizontal dimension,
kindly give us a summary of what we discussed at the last meeting.
1. What are 3 equations that are involved in deriving to come up with UAM formulae?
Answer:
II. Velocity
III. Average Velocity
IV. Average Acceleration

𝑑 𝑣𝑓+𝑣𝑖 𝑣𝑓+𝑣𝑖
𝑣= 𝑡
; 𝑣𝑎𝑣𝑒= 2
; 𝑎𝑎𝑣𝑒= 𝑡

“Very good. You really listened to our discussion last meeting”

Engage (5 mins)
Motivation

“If you want to determine how far a passing vehicle would travel in a given amount of time, how will
you do it?”
“The best way to solve a problem is usually determined by the information that is available to you.”

“Our topic for today is for the continuation of Equations for Uniformly Accelerated Motion”
Presenting the Topic: EQUATIONS OF UNIFORMLY ACCELERATED MOTION
Presenting the objectives:
1. Solve problems related to motion with uniform acceleration in the vertical dimension

Unlocking Difficult Terms

1. Velocity- the quickness of motion or action, refers to the measurement of the rate and direction of
change in position of an object. It is a vector quantity that specifies both the speed of a body and its
direction of motion.
2. Speed- Speed is a scalar quantity that refers to "how fast an object is moving." Speed can be
thought of as the rate at which an object covers distance.
3. Distance- Distance is a scalar quantity that refers to "how much ground an object has covered"
during its motion.
4. Displacement- Displacement is a vector quantity that refers to "how far out of place an object is";
it is the object's overall change in position.
5. Acceleration due to gravity- It is known as the acceleration of gravity - the acceleration for any
object moving under the sole influence of gravity.
Explore (8 mins)
Activity 1
“Roll, Roll, and Away!”
(The teacher will group the students into 5 groups )

Explain (20 mins)

Uniformly Accelerated Motion
EQUATIONS FOR UAM

Vertical Dimension:
Free-Fall (y-axis) - When an object is acted upon by the sole influence of gravity.
2
- Ag= -9.81 m/𝑠
- With no air resistance (example: is a crumpled paper and not crumpled)
- Uncrampled paper has a wider surface area which means greater air resistance. Therefore, the
crumpled paper comes down first.
- Free-fall has 2 kinds, first an object is dropped and second an object is thrown
vertically straight and goes back.
1. An object is dropped
2. An object is thrown vertically straight and goes back.

“Let us solve some sample problems. “

A. Problems that involve an object is dropped

1. A rock was dropped on top of the building and hit the ground after 5 seconds. What is the height
of the building?

2. A rock was dropped on top of the building that is 122.5m high. How long will the rock hit the ground?
B. Problem that involves An object being thrown vertically straight and going back.

Elaborate (10 mins)

The teacher will ask the following questions:

1. What is free-fall??
Answer: When an object is acted upon by the sole influence of gravity.
2. What is that force that falls us down to earth?
Answer: gravity
3. What are the 2 kinds of Free-fall?
Answer: first an object is dropped and second an object is thrown vertically straight and goes back.
4. What is the constant value of Acceleration due to gravity (Ag)?
2
Answer: Ag= -9.81 m/𝑠

Evaluate (5 mins)
1. Zed is playing with a ball on top of a building but the ball fell and hits the ground after 2.6
seconds, what is the final velocity of the ball just before it hits the ground and how high is the
building?

Extend

Assignment: In A one-half crosswise ( Deadline May 11, 2023 Wednesday)

1. The Philippines tarsier is capable of jumping to a height of 1.5 m in hunting for food. Determine
the takeoff speed of the tarsier.
2. The acceleration of gravity on the moon is 1.62 m/s^2. If a ball is dropped on the moon from a
height of 1.50m, determine the time for the ball to fall to the surface of the moon.
