Co2 Lesson Plan

This document provides a lesson plan on teaching probability of simple events to mathematics students. The plan includes the following: 1) Learning objectives which are to determine sample spaces and outcomes of events, appreciate probability in real life, and write probability expressions. 2) Subject matter on probability of simple events using references and materials like PowerPoint. 3) Teaching procedures involving review activities, demonstrations of probability through games and examples, analysis, and an individual application activity to assess understanding.

A LESSON PLAN FOR DEMONSTRATION TEACHING

MATHEMATICS 10 February 6,
2023
1:00 – 2:00

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of

Demonstrates of combinatorics and probability.

Performance Standard: The learner is able is able to use precise counting

technique and probability in formulating conclusions and
making decisions.

Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC):

The learner illustrates events, and union and intersection of
events (Week 6: M10SP-IIIf-1).

I. Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learner should be able to:
1. Determine and illustrate the number of outcomes in the event and the number
of all possible outcomes or sample space.
2. Appreciate probability of simple events in real-life situation.
3. Write and simplify probability of simple event.

II.Subject Matter
Topic: PROBABILITY OF SIMPLE EVENTS
References: K + 12 Teacher’s Guide (pp. 248-250), Learner’s Module (pp.283-
287); Nivera, G. (2014), “Patterns and Probabilities”, pp. 427 – 434.
Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, laptop, activity sheets, illustration board,
chalk, visual aids.
Subject Integration: EsP, English and MAPEH
Values Integration: Appreciation of life and teamwork, and perseverance

III. Teaching Procedure

A. Preparatory Activities
Greetings and prayer.
B. Lesson Proper
a. Review

Who wants to be a millionaire?

Group students into

member in each questions. Each questions has corresponding
points. Correct answers will receive the winning point. Good luck
future millionaires!

ACTIVITY: Present the following situations through

PowerPoint Presentation
a. Activity 1 (Motivation)
Activity Title: What Makes Our Life Colorful?

Direction: Each group will form a line. Questions will be posted and read
on screen and the last member on the line for each group will be the one to
answer the question. Questions will be answered in a given sheet of paper and
submission of answer will be in a form of relay in which it will be passed
through each other. It is a game of time so the first group who can submit the
correct answer and write down the answer on the board will be the first to pick
two strips of colored paper according to the color that appears in the given
flower figure. The last group will have no choice but to pick the remaining strip
of colored paper. (Each strip of colored papers has a corresponding points).

Activity 2: Recite, Earn and Win!

Illustrating a probability of simple events by determining
the sample space and the number of outcomes in the event.
1. When you tossed a coin, how likely it is to get a head?
2. In a die, how many 4 dots are there?
3. In the days of the week, what are the days that starts with letter S?
4. In the alphabet, how many are vowels?

ANALYSIS:
1
1. When a coin is tossed fairly, the probability of getting a head is .
2
Questions:
Where does 1 and 2 outcomes came from? What are they
representing?
1
2. When a die is rolled fairly, the probability of getting a “4” is .
6
Questions:
Where does 1 and 6 outcomes came from? What are they
representing?
3. In the days of the week, the probability of having days that starts with letter S
2
is .
7
Questions:
Where does 2 and 7 outcomes came from? What are they
representing?
5
4. In the alphabet, the probability of having vowel letters is .
26
Questions:
Where does 5 and 26 outcomes came from? What are they
representing?
5. In order to get, the probability of a simple event as what we did earlier, what
are the things that must be considered or identified?
6. How do you find the activity?
ABSTRACTION:
1. Discuss probability of simple events.

Probability of simple event is denoted as P(E) that is computed on the basis of favorable
outcomes and the number of all possible outcomes.

number of favorable outcomes n( E)

P ( E )= =
number of possible outcomes n( S)

2. Provide illustrative example: A coin is tossed.

a. Identify and write down the sample space.
b. Count the total number of possible outcomes.
c. What is the probability of getting
 a “5”
 an even number?
 a number less than 5?

Solution: a. S = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}

b. n(S) = 6
c. Probability of getting
1 favorable outcomes 1
 P ( 5 )= =
6 possible outcomes 6
3 favorable outcomes 3 1
 P ( even numbers )= = =
6 possible outcomes 6 2
4 favorable outcomes 4
 P ( numbers less than 5 )= =
6 possible outcomes 6
Provide more examples if necessary..

APPLICATION:
Spinning the Wheel of Fortune

Direction: This is an individual activity to assess if they already develop mastery of the lesson by
applying what they have learned from the previous activities. Each questions has corresponding
points through spinning the wheel of fortune. A time limit will be given and when the time stops, wait
for the teacher to say exchange paper to the other group. After checking, they will return the paper to
the owner.
Write the probability of the following:

1. Pink candies are left in a bag of 40 different colored candies.

What is the probability that you will get a pink candy?
2. There are 28 words in the chorus of the song entitled “LAON AKO”, what is the
probability that the word “laon” will be mentioned in the chorus of the song?
3. If a letter is chosen at random from the word PERSEVERANCE, what is the
probability that the letter chosen is E?
4. Of the 45 students in a class, 25 are boys. If a student is selected at random for a field
trip, what is the probability of selecting a girl?

Generalization:
How do we find the probability of simple event?

IV. Evaluation
Solve the following problems. Write the probability of the given events on
the space provided and simplify your answer. (Individual Formative Assessment)
_________1. Choosing a month from a year, what is the probability of
selecting month with 31 days?
_________2. If one letter is chosen at random from the word MATHEMATICS,
what is the probability that the letter chosen is a consonant?
_________3. A box contains 7 red balls, 5 orange balls, 4 yellow balls, 6 green
balls, and 3 blue balls. What is the probability of drawing out an
orange ball?
_________4. What is the probability of getting an ace card from a deck of 52
cards?
_________5. Two fair coins are tossed simultaneously. What is the probability of
showing a tail (T) followed by a head (H).

V. Assignment

Answer Activity 2 in your Learner’s Material pp. 330 – 331 and study
probability of compound events.
