2. Illustrate some types of harmful interactions among living things.
3. Appreciate relationship with other living things around us.

Lead the class in explaining some types of harmful interaction among living things.
Predation-one organism is benefited while the other is badly affected (killed or eaten).
The organisms in the relationship are the following:
Predator-the organism that benefits in the relationship.
Prey-the organism that is eaten or killed.
Example: bird eating worms
Parasitism – the organisms that usually benefit from this interaction are called the
parasites and the one that is affected is called the host. The parasites could be internal
or external. The internal parasites are those found inside the body of a host like the
ascaris in the human stomach. The external parasites are those found outside the body
of the host like the aphids and the tick in a dog’s body. Parasites cannot live alone.
They must live in a living host. Some parasites do slight harm to their host. Others
can kill their host.
Competition- is striving between organisms for the things needed for survival.
Organism may compete for food, shelter, sunshine space, water, and other things needed
for survival. Every organism in this kind of relationship is a competitor.

considered as the prey.
GENERALIZATION
Directions: Express your understanding of the lesson in this module by supplying the blanks with
a word to complete the paragraph. Write your answer in a separate sheet of paper.

(1)_____________, and (2) ____________.In predation the organism that benefits in the
relationship are called (3)________ and the organism that is eaten or killed are called prey.
(4)______________ one organism is benefited while the other is harmed or badly affected.
Competition is striving between organisms for the things needed for (5)__________.

Parasites Host
1. The type of interaction where one benefits while the other is killed or eaten is
called___________.
3. __________ is striving between organisms for the things needed for survival.
4. ________is the organism harmed in the interaction while the other benefits.
G. EXTEND
Make an illustration or diagram of the harmful interactions among living things.
(Choose only ONE) on ¼ illustration board using any kind of materials. This will be
