B. Motivation Instructions:
(Teaching across Individual bending
English on Visual
Literacy;
observations,
inferences &
emotions and
physical education
on non-locomotor
movement)
Let every child do the individual bending of the body to the right to the
left like in the picture.
Ask: When you bend your body, how does your muscles work?
(Ans. Muscles can pull bones, but they can’t push them back to the
original position. So they work in pairs of flexors and extensors. The
skeletal muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints, cartilage and other
connective tissue work together to allow your body to move.
C. Activity Group Activity . Group pupils into four(4) groups. Let each member
observe while others act on the activity like in the picture then answer the
given questions.
Bending of arms and elbows. Feel your muscle in your upper arm.
(Ans. When you bend your arm, the muscles work in pairs either pulling
or relaxing. Biceps and triceps are the long muscles in the upper arm.
When you bend your arm, the biceps shorten or contract while the triceps
relax. The biceps pulls the bones of the lower arm. When you put your
arms down, the triceps contract and biceps relax. The elbow tightened
because the triceps pulled the bones of the lower arm. The triceps and
biceps work as pair.)
D. Analysis Let each group present their output. Discuss their answers.
Ask: Why can you move your body in different directions?
(Ans: Because of your joints. Remember a joint is formed where two
bones meet. Each joint is designed for a specific movement.)
Ask: How do muscles and bones work together?
(Ans: Muscles, bones and other connective tissues work together to
provide the body with support, protection and movement.)
How the organs of the Muscular and Skeletal System work together?
The body’s bones ( the skeletal system), muscles (muscular system),
cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints, and other connective tissue that
supports and binds tissues and organs together provide form, support,
stability and movement to the body.
The bones of the skeletal system protect the body’s internal organs
and support the weight of the body. The skeletal portion of the system
serves as the main storage depot for calcium and phosphorous. It also
contains critical components of the hematopoietic system (blood cell
production).
The muscles of the muscular system keep bones in place; they also
play a role in movement of the bones by contracting and pulling of the
bones allowing for movements.
E. Application Can you think of an activity where the organs of the muscular and
skeletal system work together?
G. Generalization . How the organs of the Muscular and Skeletal System work
together?
H. Assessment/ Directions: Put a check mark ( / ) on the following illustrations where the organs of
Evaluation the muscular and skeletal system work together.
