Dangerous Earthquakes In the Phillipines

By:John Christopher S Bayudan

The Philippines is prone to Earthquake And Volcano Eruptions because of its
location on the so-called Pacific Ring Of Fire. In the History of the Philippines
There’s been Thousand of Earthquakes and Volcano Eruptions
But Today we are focusing On The Most dangerous Earthquake that occurred in
the Philippines

1.Palimbang Earthquake
During March 6,2002 the Palimbang earthquake is the one of the Stongest tremor that hit
Mindanao With the magnitude of 6.8 and 8 Fatalities, The Earthquake epicenter Is located in
Isulan,Sultan Kudarat with the town of palimbang As the most devastated area. The Earthquake
was produced by subduction (two tectonic plates converging together)along the Cotabato trench.
The Earthquake also wreaked havoc on the province of Sarangani,North And South Cotabato,
leaving around 7,684 families affected. Damaged infrastructures include public markets,
churches, highways, schools, and residential houses.

houses

intensity Scale the earthquake was an intensity 7 (Dstructive) Earthquake at maximum. In the
past Siargao province has been hit by a magnitude 7.2 tremor in both 1879 and 1893

By:John Christopher S Bayudan
During April 29, 2019 Is when the Earthquake happened The NDRRMC Confirmed 18 deaths 3
People Missing and 256 Injuries. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology
(PHIVOLCS) first reported a magnitude 5.7 earthquake at 17:11 PST with an epicenter two
kilometers N 28° E of Castillejos, Zambales. Subsequently, the report was revised to a
magnitude 6.1 earthquake with an epicenter at 18 kilometers N 58° E of Castillejos.

The fault from which the earthquake originated has yet to be identified, and geologists are
focusing on two nearby fault systems, the Iba Fault and the East Zambales Fault, trying to
determine the origin of the earthquake.

6.2019 Cotabato Earthquakes

The 2019 Cotabato earthquakes are a series of earthquakes that hit the province of Cotabato on
the island of Mindanao in the Philippines in October 2019. Three of these earthquakes were
above 6.0 on the moment magnitude scale with a Mercalli intensity of VIII . More than 40
people were reported dead or missing and nearly 800 were injured as a result of these events.
Mindanao lies along the complex convergent boundary between the Sunda Plate and the
Philippine Sea Plate. Some of the oblique convergence between these plates is absorbed by
subduction along the Cotabato Trench. The strike-slip component of the convergence is
accommodated in part by the Philippine Fault System and in part by the Cotabato Fault System,
a network of mainly NW-SE trending sinistral (left lateral) strike-slip faults. which forms the
boundary between the Cotabato Arc and the Central Mindanao Volcanic Belt.[8] In the area of
the October 2019 earthquake series, individual faults include the NW-SE trending South
Columbio Fault, North Columbio Fault, M'Lang Fault, Makilala-Malungon Fault, and the
Tangbulan fault and the SW-NE trending Makilana Fault and Balabag Fault
