Time management skills of students in the SPA program

Time is one of the most valuable things in life, and we cannot waste it unnecessarily
as it never comes back once gone. Since our childhood, we have been doing things
according to certain rules and times. Each and everything in this world is scheduled
according to time, and thus time is the most important entity of our life. Wise planning
and implementation of various tasks is referred to as time management. Time
management plays a significant role in everyone’s life, be it a student, a businessman, a
worker, or anyone else. It enables people to get more and better work done in less time.
We only get 24 hours to complete our daily tasks, and if we don’t schedule things
according to time, we may not be able to accomplish all the tasks and thus lag behind in
various aspects of life. In the Spa program, students are engaged more in extracurricular
activities but also in their academics, with a passing grade of 80 in the regular subjects
and 85 in their distinctive specializations. In order to excel both in academics and
extracurricular activities, students must have proper time management.

In order to increase their chances of success in life, students should strive to excel in
both their academics and extracurricular activities. Numerous opportunities and a higher
sense of self-worth can result from exposing them to a variety of activities. They will
learn vital life skills like prioritizing, problem-solving, analytical thinking, teamwork,
goal-setting, problem-solving, problem-solving, leadership, and public speaking.
Academic excellence is shared by students who excel in extracurricular activities.
Numerous studies have been done on the connection between extracurricular activities
and academic achievement, and they all demonstrate that students who take part in them
achieve higher grades, have more positive attitudes toward school, and have higher
academic aspirations. (crimsoneducation)

School time is usually very hectic, and students hardly get any time to do anything
once they are done with school. But whenever a child is part of an extracurricular activity
that they like, they automatically find the time to do it apart from their school work.
Making time for their passion will help them learn time management skills and become
more efficient professionals. Therefore, we, the researchers, will conduct a study to
determine the time management skills of students in the SPA program and how they
handle their academics as well as their extracurricular activities. The objectives that
researchers aim to achieve are as follows: identify students who excel academically based
on their grade average in the 2nd quarter. Then, determine the alternative during the
student’s practices. Lastly, to know the different management techniques that the students
apply to balance their academics and specializations This objective serves as the purpose
of this study, and it will be used as a tool to achieve the goal of this study.

This will solely focus on how the students have set their time for their academics
according to their specializations and vice versa. On what they focused more on: their
specialization or their academics. How they have balanced their time and how they have
accomplished their tasks. If the student has planned everything according to time, they
can accomplish anything without getting stressed. Proper time management skills will
help students maintain a balance between their personal and professional lives. The SPA
students have a schedule every day, where 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. is the morning period
that is normal subjects, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. is the afternoon period that are also normal
subjects , and 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. is the student’s specialization. To conduct this study,
the researchers will determine the general average of the students, whether it is 90 -
above, 85 - 89, 80 - 84, or below 80. Students with high general averages show that they
have balanced their academics and specializations. The alternative during students
practices will also be determined, whether they are always present, frequently present,
rarely present, or never present. Students who are always present show that they have
devoted their time to their specializations. The respondents to this study will be the Grade
7, 8 , 9 and 10 SPA students.

Time management is the coordination of tasks and activities to maximize the

effectiveness of an individual's efforts. (Lutkevich, 2013) It is all about knowing which
chore or responsibility to prioritize. Nowadays, it has been considered as a difficulty for
most students to juggle their responsibilities at school and at home. With that being said,
the researchers have conducted research and browsed for self-help techniques that will
offer a solution to this dilemma. The researchers chose to focus on this goal because it
will be beneficial to the students considering their level, where studies take up a huge
chunk of their time and are what keep them occupied most of the time. The relevance of
this study is mostly directed at the learners and the circumstances that they face every
day.
