Background of The Study

Deforestation is the removal of forests without sufficient replanting. It is a major environmental concern caused primarily by human activities like agriculture, logging, and urbanization. Agriculture and logging are two significant drivers of deforestation, as farmers and logging firms clear large areas of forest for crops, livestock, and timber. This results in biodiversity loss and contributes to climate change by reducing the forests that store large amounts of carbon. The study aims to understand students' concerns about deforestation to help address this environmental challenge.

Chapter I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

Deforestation has been a serious environmental concern around the

world for decades. It is the process of removing or clearing forests, trees, or

forestry without sufficient replanting or regrowth. Natural disasters such as

fires and storms can cause deforestation, but human activities such as logging,

farming, and urbanization produce the majority of deforestation.

Agriculture is a major cause of deforestation. Farmers destroy vast

swaths of forest to make way for crops and cattle. Because of the increased

need for livestock, dairy products, and crops, forests have been converted into

agricultural land. Farmers use slash-and-burn agriculture to cut down trees,

burn in which they cut down trees, burn the vegetation, and then sow crops.

Unfortunately, the soil in these locations is often weak and quickly depletes,

necessitating additional land clearing of additional land. https://quillbot.com/

Commercial logging is another major cause of deforestation. Logging

firms cut down trees to make lumber and wood products, which is a valuable

industry. Timber extraction is not done sustainably, resulting in forest

depletion. Furthermore, roads built for logging trucks open up previously

inaccessible forest areas, allowing criminal operations like poaching and

mining simpler to carry out. This exacerbates the deforestation situation.

Deforestation has far-reaching implications that have a substantial impact on

the environment. Forests are critical for biodiversity because they provide a

home for countless plant and animal species. When forests are cleared, the

animals that dwell there lose their homes, as do the flora on which they rely for

sustenance. This results in biodiversity loss, which has long-term ramifications

for the environment. Deforestation also contributes to climate change because

forests store enormous amounts of carbon. https://quillbot.com/

Overall, the researchers came up with this study of deforestation as

essential to know the foremost concerns of grade 11 General Academic Strands

Students. Through research, policymakers, stakeholders, and future

researchers can develop effective strategies to address this environmental

challenge and ensure the sustainable use of forest resources for future

generations.
