INTRODUCTION:
SLP-Service learning is an experimental education.it provides an
opportunity for the studend to acheive the real objectives for the community and deeper
understanding about the society. It is a wonderful opportunity to create awarness to thr
public and participate in direct action to get a solution to restore the neture of the vaigai
river. It necessary to creat awareness amongb people who are living around the vaigai
river. Education is found to be the best society and the surroundings. It is a tool to
change the society and the indivudual.

Madurai city-MAIN POLLUTION

1.Air pollution

2.water pollution

3.land pollution

4.noise pollution

Effects:

AIR POLLUTIlON:
Long –term health effects from AIR POLLUTION include heart
disease, lung cancer, and respiratory diseases such as emphysema.air pollution can also
cause long term damege to people nerves, brain, kidneys, liver, and other organs. Some
scieentists suspect air pollutants cause birth defects

WATER POLLUTION:
Diseases and health problems that water polluyion can cause include
waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid, water – washed diseases such as
trachoma and typhus, and water-based diseases such as schistosomiasis
LAND POLLUTION:
Land pollution can harm the humanbody in avariety of ways.toxic
waste and contaminants can be ingested by people.disposal of hazardous radioactive
wastes also contributes to land contamination. Chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer,
heart disease, and even brain damage are all long –term health consequences.

NOISE POLLUTION:
Noise pollution impacts millions of people on a daily basis. The
most common health problems it caussess is NOISE INDUCED HEARING
LOSS(NIHL).exposure to loud noise can aslo cause high blood pressure, heart disease,
sleep disturbances, and stress.these health problems can affect all age groups, especially
children.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY:
SOCIETY:
Polluttion stunts economic growth, exacerbates poverty and inequality in both
urban and rural areas, and significatly contributes to climate change. Poor people , who
cannot afford to protect themselves from the negative impacts os pollution, end up
suffering the most.

Poor people, who cannot afford to protect themselves from the negative
impacts of pollution, end up suffering the most.pollution is the largest environmental
cause of disease and premature death.pollution causes more than 9 millon premature
deaths, the majority of them due to air pollution.

PEOPLE:
Long term health effects from air pollution include heart disease, lung
cancer, and respiratory diseasea such as emphysema. Air pollution can also cause long
term damege people nerves, brain kidneys, liver, and other organs.some scientists suspect
air pollutants cause birth defects.

From smog hanging over cities to smoke inside the home, air pollution poses a
major threats to health and climate.ambient (outdoor) air pollution in both cities and rural
areas is causing fine particulate mater which result in strokes, heart diseases, lung cancer,
acute and chronic respiratorty diseases.

SOIL POLLUTION:
The application of waste or polluted water into the soil alters its physical and
chemical, thereby affecting the growth of agriculture crops and other living organisms .
even the extensive agricultural practices such as fertilizer and pesticide application
deteriorate the soil quality.

ANALYSIS:
(Many types of pollution)

1. Air pollution
2. Water pollution
3. Carbon monoxide
4. Ozone
5. Thermal pollution
6. Industrial waste
7. Lead
8. Radioactive pollution
9. Noise
10.Soil
11.Nitrogen dioxide
12.Sulfur dioxide
13.Coal
14.Indoor air pollution
15.Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

Effects People:

 Condition such as asthma heart disease, and lung disease can be made
worse by exposure to air pollution.
 The length of exposure and amound and types of pollutants are also
factors.
 Like people, animals, and plants, entire ecosystems can suffer effects from

Effects of world:
 Pollution of all types hinder development of outcomes.
 Air pollution, exposure to lead and other chemical, and hazardous
waste including exposure to improper e-waste disposal, couse
debilitating and fatal illnesses, creat harmful living conditions, and
destroy ecosystems.
RECOMMENDATIONS:-
Pollution control is a term used in environmental management. It means the
control of emissions and effluents into air, water or soil. Without pollution control,
the waste products from overconsumption, heating, agriculture, mining,
manufacturing, transportation and other human activities, whether they accumulate
or disperse, will degrade the environment. In the hierarchy of controls, pollution
prevention and waste minimization are more desirable than pollution control. In
the field of land development, low impact development is a similar technique for
the prevention of urban runoff.

Pollution control, in environmental engineering, any of a variety of means

employed to limit damage done to the environment by the discharge of harmful
substances and energies. Specific means of pollution control might include refuse
disposal systems such as sanitary landfills, emission control systems for
automobiles, sedimentation tanks in sewerage systems, the electrostatic
precipitation of impurities from industrial gas, or the practice of recycling. For full
treatment of major areas of pollution control, see air pollution control, wastewater
treatment, solid-waste management, and hazardous-waste management
