1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this Method Statement is to establish the rules to be applied during all the
concrete works (including in-situ concrete, precast concrete and concrete repair works) starting
from reinforcement work, formwork, transportation of material, inspection, installation, testing,
concrete pouring, concrete curing, and concrete repair to ensure that all the concrete works are
properly executed in accordance with Project Specifications and applicable standards.

2. SCOPE

This method statement defines the sequence and describes the control procedures to be followed
for concrete work of Project: 4293 (Epic of utilization of produced water from storage tanks at
degassing stations for PWI).

5. RESPONSIBILITES

5.1 The Project Manager

 Project manager shall be responsible for accomplishing the stated project objectives which
include creating clear and attainable project objectives, building the project requirements,
and managing the constraints of the project management triangle, which are cost, time,
scope, and quality.
 Project Manager shall be responsible for the ensuring that the Project Quality plan and the
Inspection and Testing procedures, the method the statement, HSE safety, and all
contractual documentation are maintained up to date and accessible to all parties.

5.2 The Construction Manager

 Construction Manager shall be responsible for all construction activities & shall ensure that
all works are carried as per planned schedule following the related approved documents &
drawing.
 He shall coordinate with QatarEnergy team & site team and resolve construction issues
arises.

5.3 The Civil Engineer

 Civil Engineer shall be responsible for construction activities and ensure that all works are
carried out as per approved method statement, AFC drawing, specification & safety
procedures determined by project HSE plan.

5.4 The Construction Supervisor

 Construction Supervisor is required to ensure that all works are carried out as per approved
drawings, project specifications & requirements.
 Construction Supervisor will ensure that the work is covered with valid work permits from
Government agencies QatarEnergy, wherever applicable, and all permit/safety requirements
are strictly followed.
 Conduct toolbox talks explaining the hazards associated with the work and the mitigation
measures.

5.5 The Civil QC Inspector (QCIC)

 QCIC will ensure that all activities that are required to be inspected have been inspected and
approved by QatarEnergy.
 Accompany the company representative while carrying out inspections and release of hold
points.
 Issue CAR, When and Where required, and ensure that construction provide & implement
the corrective action.

5.6 The Safety Officer

 Safety officer will ensure that the work is covered with valid work permits from government
agencies QatarEnergy, wherever applicable, and all permit & safety requirements strictly
followed.
 Safety officer will ensure that toolbox talks are carried at all work locations, as per HSE Plan.
 Safety officer will ensure that work locations are appropriately barricaded and safety signs
are provided.
 Any unsafe act or condition will be immediately stopped and reported to the HSE Manager &

5.7 The Surveyor

 To make sure all permits and location before start survey


 To verify and ensure the survey instruments working in good conditions and valid calibrated
certificates before commencing the work
 Check the location personnel and find the requirements of helpers and transport assistance.
 Study the drawings thoroughly and make ensure all the drawings are approved by
QatarEnergy.
 Check the pipeline routes and all road crossing shall be followed by QatarEnergy Approved
benchmark
 Before commencing the survey works check any obstacles from existing facilities and
underground utilities.
 To perform the survey work as described method statements and approved procedures.
 Control points shall be checked periodically from QatarEnergy Reference points to ensure
control points are not disturbed.
 After setting out of control points, pipeline direction and chainage reference should be
marked at every 50 meters by wooden peg.
 All the control points shall be placing of concrete around the peg and barricaded with
warning tape and signage’s.
 Tripods shall be checked prior to fix survey instruments. And always handle the instrument
with safe method and keep in good condition.
 Co – ordinate with QatarEnergy surveyor and site people
 If any changes of values or coordinates variations arises inform to civil engineer / manager.

5.8 The Banks Man

 Directing the movement and loading/unloading of vehicles and directing the movement of
mobile plant.
 Controlling the movements of excavator or other mobile plant, by carefully.
 Carefully monitoring the bucket (equipment) for any obstructions to other vehicle
movements/pedestrians.

5.9 Equipment Driver/Operator

 Operate the equipment in the right direction and angles to prevent accidents and damage of
property.
 Maintain proper coordination and cooperation with the road and transport system while
driving/working, so that the normal activities are not disrupted.
 Perform periodical safety, maintenance or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of
the equipment.

7. LOCATION

 Location of concrete works is applicable to all foundations, concrete pits, culverts, and
concrete pavement in the project for both cast-in-situ and precast.

8. HSE REQUIREMENT

 Permit to work system to be followed as per QatarEnergy requirement.


 Safety toolbox talks will be carried at all work locations, as per contractors approved HSE
Plan.
 Prior to start concrete operations, the equipment/vehicles shall be certified, and record shall
be maintained at site.
 Banks man shall be deployed to control the movement of vehicles and equipment.
 The HSE aspects of the operation will be direct responsibility of the appointed HSE advisor
and shall be accordance with project HSE plan.
 The labour force shall use the required PPE's on-site during work.
 Toolbox talks shall be conducted on regular basis and all hazards shall be identified and
controlled.
 All crew shall be briefed with the hazards involved in the operation toolbox talk shall be
carried out on daily basis.
 All new workers in the site shall have a site induction course and new employee orientation
by HSE lead.
 Conducts STARRT prior to start of activity.
 Supervisor will impart toolbox talks to his crew especially for hazard involved and subsequent
control measure.

9. WORK PROCEDURE

Work procedure shall be as per approved ITP stage wise inspection amended accordingly.

9.1 Setting out

 Setting out will be carried out with reference to the established, approved survey points.
 The Tolerance shall comply with Specification for Civil & Structural Works.
 Ensure soil condition is ready to receive blinding.

9.2 Blinding & Screed Concrete

 Fixed timber forms will be formed for edges of blinding concrete.


 One layer of 1000 gauge polythene sheet shall be laid prior to arrangement for blinding
concrete.
 All foundation shall have minimum 75mm layer of blinding concrete (concrete grade SRC
15/20).
 After final casting of blinding concrete 1.5 mm bituminous self- adhesive waterp r o o f
membrane shall be laid over concrete blinding layer with a minimum overlap of 100mm.
 Sand cement screed shall be 40mm thick, minimum 15N / SRC 10mm aggregates cast over
this membrane.
 Setting out and marking will be done over screed for starting shuttering & Reinforcement for
footing.
 All works shall comply with QatarEnergy Specifications.

9.3 Reinforcement

 Source of Reinforcement shall be approved by QatarEnergy prior to use.


 Fabrication & Deformation of steel will be done at Reinforcement steel fabrication shop at
site or at external factories approved by QatarEnergy.
 Assembled reinforcement will be erected manually or using crane /suitable lift ing
equipment (If necessary).
 Tie wire shall be black annealed wire, binding wire of approximately 1.5 mm (16 BWG) to be
provided.

 The spacer blocks will be prepared near reinforcement yard at site or at precast yard and
casted from the same mix as the surrounding concrete
 Clear cover to all reinforcement shall be provided as per standard of QatarEnergy
specifications.

9.4 Form work

 All formworks shall be made from clean marine waterproof plywood with white wood used
for the frame of formworks.
 Formwork shall be sufficiently tight to prevent leakage of cement slurry while concreting.

 Form work will be adequately propped, braced, and tied in position to ensure that it retains
its shape and position before, during and after concreting.
 Level guide shall be installed for the level maintenance of concrete.
 Formwork will remain in place until the concrete has hardened sufficiently to resist damages
from the removal operation which in this case in a minimum of 24 hours after placing of
concrete.
 The formwork will be removed in accordance with project specification; no form work shall
be removed until the concrete has gained sufficient strength.
 Chamfer 25X25 mm shall be placed in forms to bevel all edges except bottom edges of
foundation.
 Formwork shall be coated with chloride free form release oil.

9.5 Embedded Items

 Embedded items shall be installed & secured in their proper position before any concreting.
Make sure the embedded item shall be hot dip galvanized.

9.6 Placing of concrete

 Concrete will be delivered comply with design ready-mix, the max time between mixing
and placing concrete shall not exceed 90 min.
 Concrete pouring shall be scheduled such that concreting will not take place at mid-day
(10:00am to 5:00pm) during hot weather period and when shade temperature exceeds 40ºC.
 Concrete will be placed as nearly as practicable to its final position and care taken to avoid
segregation of concrete, displacement of reinforcement, formwork or embedded Items,

maximum free fall for concrete shall not exceed 1.5m. Temperature of concrete at the time
of placement shall be measured and recorded each pour card.
 Prior to pouring of concrete, delivery tickets shall be checked and verified the grades, mix no,
time, temperatures, slump, and sample cubes.
 Immersion vibrator shall be used to ensure that concrete is worked around t h e
Reinforcement, around embedded material and into corners of forms to eliminate all air or
stone pockets which may cause any cavity.
 Anchor bolts shall be placed as indicated in drawings, using suitable template, and firmly
secured to the formwork.
 Vibrator: sufficient quantity with adapted size shall be used.
 Concrete repair shall start immediately after formwork removing.
 Prior to pouring of concrete, rebar inside from work shall be cleaned (free of dust) by air
blowing.
 NO concrete repair shall be carried out without QatarEnergy approval and for major repairs
like honey combing etc. methodology of repair shall be approved by QatarEnergy prior to
starting any repair.

9.7 Curing

 Surface of hardened Concrete Shall be covered with Hessian cloth plus polyethylene sheet
to prevent evaporation, to retain the moisture with subject to continuous water curing for
minimum 7 days after placing of concrete.
 The side forms shall be cracked after 24 hours to get initial water to the surface.
 Construction joints shall be cleaned for any spilled concrete and shall be covered with Wet
hessian which will be kept damp.
 All construction joints shall have continuous key at centre of joint. bonding agent shall be
applied before commencing successive concreting.
 Curing the horizontal surface shall be immediately after placing the concrete and shall
comply.
