TC2 Module Insertion and Extraction

For attention: Production and Assembly Personnel

1. TC2 Module Handling

Caution: The TC2 is an ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) sensitive device.

Electrostatic charges as high as 4000V readily accumulate on the human
body and test equipment and can discharge without detection. Permanent
damage may occur to devices subjected to high energy electrostatic
discharges. Therefore, proper ESD precautions are recommended prior to
and when handling the TC2 in order to avoid performance degradation or
loss of functionality. Appropriate ESD precautions include:

• the wearing of anti-static gloves

• keeping the TC2 in its original protective packaging as long as possible
• opening original protective packaging only at grounded workstations
• immediately replacing uninstalled modules in their protective packaging
• using workbenches with a static-dissipative surface grounded via a high impedance
• wearing conductive wrist straps grounded via a high impedance
• discharging potentially damaging ESD sources through a high impedance
• limiting direct contact with a module to its exposed ground rim as far as possible

2. TC2 Module Connectors

Note the positions of the TC2 connectors J1, J2 and J3 shown in Figure 1.

3. TC2 Module Insertion

Care should be taken when installing the TC2 in order not to damage the connectors. This is
best done by installing the TC2 as parallel to the Host carrier bord as possible. To install, place
the module lightly on the Host carrier board mating connectors, feeling for the obvious seating
position when all three connectors are aligned. Once aligned, use your two thumbs to press down
the TC2 in a parallel action until the snap can be heard and felt of the connectors mating. Visually
inspect to ensure that the module board and host board are parallel and that the TC2 is properly
seated.

4. TC2 Module Extraction

Special care should be taken when removing the TC2 in order not to damage the connectors.
Use of the TC2 Extractor tool is mandatory when unplugging the module. The Extractor tool
should be attached to the TC2 as depicted in Figure 2.

Figure 2: TC2 Extractor tool attachment position.

To remove, attach the Extractor tool to the TC2 by pressing the Extractor tool side tabs, placing
the extractor claws in the correct position and releasing the tabs, ensuring that the Extractor
tool has properly positioned and gripped the TC2 module. Pull on the Extractor tool middle tab
directly upward to detach the module from the Host carrier card.
If an angled approach is required, the J1-end of the module should be disconnected first, with
J2 and J3 following simultaneously, taking care to keep the module angle to an absolute
minimum.
