1. Discuss the Global and National Health situation.

- With increasing global connectivity, the impact of an event travels across today's world
with the speed of a broadband internet connection. This holds true for the issues and
medical situations the world is currently dealing with. The year 2020 was catastrophic
for world health. A previously unidentified virus spread quickly around the world, quickly
becoming one of its top killers and exposing the shortcomings of healthcare institutions.
Health services are currently having difficulty treating COVID-19 while also giving
patients essential care in all places. Another setback that the pandemic could cause is
the hard-won advancements in maternal and child health and the fight against infectious
illnesses that have been made during the past two decades. Therefore, countries
worldwide will need to continue fighting COVID-19 in 2021. (albeit with the knowledge
that effective tools are evolving). They must respond swiftly to solve the major societal
and environmental issues that lead some groups of the population to suffer so much
more than others, as well as to repair and strengthen their health systems so they can
offer these measures. One of the clearest lessons the pandemic has taught us is the
consequences of neglecting our health systems. To solve these world health challenges,
WHO will work across all three levels of the Organization and with partners worldwide to
help countries strengthen systems so that they can respond to COVID-19 and deliver all
the essential health services required to keep people of all ages healthy – close to
home and without falling into poverty. The ever-growing list of global health issues can
be overwhelming, but there are so many ways individuals can make a positive impact.

2. Define the following and its focus:

a. Public Health
-The science of protecting and promoting people's and communities' health is known as
public health. This is accomplished through the promotion of healthy lifestyles, research
concerning disease and injury prevention, and detection, prevention, and response to
infectious diseases. Generally, public health is concerned with the well-being of entire
populations. These populations can range from a local neighborhood to an entire
country or part of the world.
b. Community Health
- The field of public health seeks to safeguard and enhance health by addressing the
structures and systems that characterize a location—as well as assisting those who live
and work there in making healthy choices. Problems are examined, data is obtained,
and resources are gathered to assist in the resolution of those problems. Community
health is concerned with an entire particular area rather than common characteristics
such as age or diagnosis. The defined area could be as small as a neighborhood or as
large as a city or a region.
c. Public Health Nursing
-The American Public Health Association defines public health nursing as, "the practice
of promoting and protecting the health of populations using knowledge from nursing,
social, and public health sciences". As individuals, nurses directly influence the health
and well-being of patients every day. Through frequent contact, nurses are best placed
to encourage lifestyle changes in communities and offer education on healthy living –
particularly to the most vulnerable in society.
d. Community Health Nursing
-Community Health Nursing is a synthesis of nursing and public health practice; it is a
population-focused, community-oriented approach aimed at population health promotion
and the prevention of disease, disability, and early mortality.
e. Standards of Public Health Nursing in the Philippines
-The National League of Philippine Government Nurses (2005) developed the
Standard of Public Health Nursing that describe the qualification and function of
the public nurses. This standards is use to discuss the qualifications, settings of
work, functions and competencies of the Public Health Nurse.

3. Explain/Outline the Evolution of Public Health Nursing in the Philippines

-The public health nursing in the Philippines comes from the care giving provided by
women, priest and herb doctors during the pre-colonial Philippines. In this time women
didn’t have much opportunity to be formally educated in schools, this trend continued
during the Spanish colonial era. During the American period in the Philippines they were
given the chance to become educated as nurses, guided by their American nurse and
missionary mentors, until nursing became a full-pledged profession in the Philippines, a
professional career not only for modern-day women in the country but also for men in
the Philippines as male nurses.
4. Differentiate roles and responsibilities of a Community health Nurse.
-Nurses are in every community – large and small – providing expert care from birth to
the end of life. Nurses' roles range from direct patient care and case management to
establishing nursing practice standards, developing quality assurance procedures, and
directing complex nursing care systems. The responsibilities of these nurses differ in
each career path, but all community health nurses promote healthy living, disease
prevention, and necessary medical treatment. Additionally, community health nurses
create programs that promote community health and collect data to identify community
needs.

done.’ Excel!”
