Digimon 101
The essence of Digimon is teamwork. To succeed as a Tamer, you must assemble the best
Digimon team you can - which doesn’t necessarily mean digivolving each member to Mega and
then stopping. Each Digimon can only learn its own signature move. Therefore, to get the best
moves matched with the best monster form, you must digivolve and de-digivolve up and down
the various stages to find just the right combination.
Digivolution
After you recruit a Digimon, you must raise it and teach it new moves. Digivolution is not
a natural process of aging for a Digimon. Instead, Digimon will only ever digivolve or
de-digivolve when exposed to a Gem. Each Digimon will transform into a different specific
monster type depending on the type of Gem to which it was exposed.
Evolutionary Stages
Each monster form belongs to one or another stage. Stages are ranked. Digivolution means
ascending in stage rank. De-digivolution means descending in stage rank. The Stages are, and
are ranked, as follows:
1 Baby
2 In-Training
3 Rookie
4 Champion
5 Ultimate
6 Mega
7 Super Mega
NOTE: Some Super Mega Digimon can digivolve into other Super Mega Digimon.
4
Gem Types
App Gem Results in an App type of the next Stage
Data Gem Results in a Data type of the next Stage
Virus Gem Results in a Virus type of the next Stage
Miracle Gem Allows for digivolution which is otherwise impossible
Youth Gem De-digivolves the monster to a lower Stage
NOTE: When you use the Youth Gem on a monster, the form which it will become is determined
by its current form, not by the monster’s previous form.
Digimon Battles
There are two types of battles in Digimon: Escape from Server Island: battles against wild
monsters, and those against Digimon Tamers. To succeed at a battle, you must have a basic
understanding of the battle system, from selecting moves to pitting Digimon against types weak
to its attacks. Battles with wild monsters are always 1-on-1 Battles. Battles with Digimon Tamers
can be either 1-on-1 or 2-on-2.
Course of Action
When the battle starts, the first Digimon on your team enters the field. This Digimon is called
your lead Digimon. You can switch out your lead Digimon when you’re not in battle. After your
lead Digimon is in battle, it’s time to choose a course of action. You have four choices:
Fight: The Fight command allows you to tell the Digimon which move to use in the battle,
whether it is offensive or defensive. Each move has a limited number of uses, which is detailed
by its Power Points (PP). You can replenish PP between battles at a Personal Computer
Digicenter, or in battle with PP-replenishing items.
Pokemon: This command, whose name is an unchangeable remnant of the original game,
allows you to shift Digimon in and out of battle. Is your Digimon not doing so well against its
opponent? Do you have a Digimon in reserve who is better suited for a particular battle? Call
back the Digimon in the battle and replace it with another Digimon from the team.
Bag: Your Bag is full of items, such as Restore Points. You can use these items in battle to
recover HP, increase fighting abilities, and more. Using an item from your Bag completes your
turn. You cannot complete a battle move and use an item in the same turn.
Run: You cannot flee from a Tamer Battle, but if you are battling against a wild monster, use
this command to exit the fight. This is not always successful.
5
Tamer Battles
Server Island is full of avatars of Tamers, controlled by other early-access testers like
you. However, while your character has been brought into the digital world, these avatars are
merely controlled by other people. They think you’re another game tester like them, but you’re
really trapped inside the game!
If you walk into the line of sight of a Tamer, the Tamer challenges you to a battle. You
cannot refuse, and you must battle until all of one Tamer’s Digimon have fainted (lost all HP).
There are a few different battle types. In addition to regular 1-on-1 Battles, there are
2-on-2 Battles where two Tamers send out a single Digimon each. In these battles, you must
respond with two Digimon. Your lead Digimon and the second Digimon are automatically sent
into the battle.
Damage Multipliers
To be a successful Tamer, you must master damage multipliers. Depending on what type of
move you use against an opponent Digimon, you can see a variety of effects. Each of these
multiplier conditions are cumulative, and multiplies the damage of the move by two (x2).
Condition
Move’s Aspect is effective against opponent’s Type
Move’s Aspect is effective against opponent’s Tribe
Move scores a Critical Hit
During a battle’s course, you may see messages at the screen’s bottom. These messages let
you know if the attacks you are using, or the attacks being used against you, are working, if an
attack is not effective, or if your Digimon has scored a Critical Hit.
Status Conditions
A Status Condition adds a specific tag to a Digimon’s health display, which can be seen both in
battle as well as outside of battle. If a Digimon has a Status Condition, it cannot be given
another Status Condition as well. Digimon who do not recover from their Status Condition during
battle will still be afflicted with that Status Condition after battle.
Status Effects
A Status Effect will not be visible, but will display a message when its effect is referenced. All
Status Effects disappear at the end of each battle.

Move List
You can teach a Digimon the signature move of its current form by taking it to Calumon, and
giving an InfoHeart to Calumon. InfoHearts can be found across Server Island. If you find a
strange corner, perhaps surrounded by flowers, then face that space and press “A”. You might
find an InfoHeart!
Digimon can only learn their signature move once they have met a minimum Level. That Level
is determined by the Evolutionary Stage of the Digimon.
