Thank you for considering my application for the new graduate nurse residency program. If honored the opportunity to join the UCSD team, I am confident that my effective leadership qualities, emotional and physical stamina, and charismatic personality would make an excellent addition to the program. The University of Arizona’s rigorous nursing program provided me the opportunity to expand my skill set and prove my resiliency and determination. With each rotation, my ability to adapt and collaboration with others allowed me to seamlessly transition into each new unit. This granted me the comfort to seek learning opportunities in each specialty, making it difficult to choose the right one for me. It was only after I saw healthcare from the patient and family perspective that I realized where my passion truly lies. At the end of my second semester, I had two close family members receive life-changing medical diagnoses. Because of those, I was heavily involved in both their acute and chronic treatment and recovery and spent a lot of time within the healthcare setting. Through those experiences I realized my passion for the high acuity setting, which led me to do my senior preceptorship in the intensive care unit. I flourished in the role of a full-time nurse, delivering exceptional and timely care to my patients and those of my peers by lending a helping hand whenever I could. My interpersonal skills facilitated cohesive dialogue between the healthcare team and our patients to ensure well-informed, comprehensive care plans. My preceptorship furthered my confidence in my capabilities as a critical care nurse, as I applied my expanding knowledge and diverse skillset while also pursing my passion of supporting patients and families through their health journeys. My effective communication skills help foster trust from my patients - something I believe is a true asset to a healthcare team. I am also currently working on my ACLS certification, as I wanted to further pursue my interest in intensive care. In searching for residency programs, I look for those whose values most similarly align with my own. Throughout our experiences, our healthcare teams never failed to make my mom, cousin, and family feel like a priority. The attentiveness we were shown made a world of a difference, which is why I show each of my patients that same care and compassion every day. I truly appreciate UCSD’s motto of “we care”, as I aspire to work beside others who put patients’ safety and experiences above all else like myself. Something I love about our field is the endless opportunity for growth and learning. I am looking for a proactive environment that doesn’t only treat symptoms as they come but also plans on what can be expected. I hope to work collaboratively with my colleagues to provide progressive and innovative care. I hold myself to the highest standard as a nurse and hope to work in an equivalent environment. I am confident that my unique skillset and personality would make me an excellent asset to a collaborative and inspiring team if chosen for this program. Thank you for your time and consideration of my application, I look forward to the opportunity to speak with you.
